Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College and in accordance with National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence. The faculty member is responsible for maintaining all current ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications.

MassBay Community College invites applicants for an Automotive Instructor. MassBay is seeking a dynamic, articulate, proven team player with an ability to manage a positive teaching/learning classroom in the area of Automotive Technology. This position at the rank of Instructor will begin in September 2024.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses for a two-year automotive service technician program;
  • Maintain a professional teaching learning environment;
  • Maintain ASE accreditation for the program and teach to ASE standards;
  • Manage classroom and shop/lab to ensure that there is a productive and safe learning environment;
  • Promote college programs and enhance community relationships;
  • Teach a full-time (approximately 15 credit hours per semester) schedule of courses in automotive programs at the colleges Ashland training center, or other campuses as assigned
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
  • Engage regularly with dealer contacts and other external parties to enhance recruitment in MassBays automotive programs;
  • Work effectively with advisory committees and community groups;
  • Serve as academic advisor to automotive students as assigned by the College;
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attend Program, Department, Division, Faculty, and Committee meetings;
  • Select and recommend suitable instructional materials, and textbooks;
  • Participate regularly in assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
  • Participate in improvement and development of academic programs and resources in consultation with the academic dean(s);
  • Use technology effectively to communicate and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation required by MassBay;
  • Participate in activities such as advising days, open houses, and advisory board meetings to maintain a high level of engagement with our industry partners;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining agreement.

  • Engage in conversations with colleagues and students regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic related to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  •  ASE Certifications;
  • 5 years of field or work experience in automotive services;
  • Proven oral and written communication and extensive experience with electronic communication;
  • Must be 100% GM certified in all teaching areas by the end of the first year of teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • 10 years employment within the automotive industry related teaching experience;
  • GM Master Certification in all Training Areas
  • ASE Master Certification with L1;
  • Two or more years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience teaching automotive courses;
  • Diesel experience;
  • Associates degree.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $56,000.00 - 77,000.00 Annual Salary

Position Type: MCCC-Faculty
