Salary Range: $13,729 - $20,575/quarter at 100% FTE, dependent upon education/experience

The Biology department is seeking instructors for two plant biology courses for Spring Quarter 2024 (April 3 – June 20):
- BIOL 124 Northwest Flora covers Plant classification, field study, and laboratory identification of common Pacific Northwest plant families and investigating the ecology, cultural uses & conservation of plants at the local & global level. This course will be taught in a hybrid format with a once-weekly lab on Thursdays from 12:30 – 3:20 pm
- BIOL 126 Sustainable Gardening/Horticulture teaches environmentally responsible gardening practices and landscaping. Content includes plant identification, plant anatomy, soils, fertilizers/composting, integrated pest management, and water conservation. This course will be taught asynchronously online.
Essential Job Duties:
- Instruction in course subject matter as described above
- Development of course materials to support instruction
- Assignment of final grades to students
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Masters degree in biology or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Experience teaching, training, or mentoring adults
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of native flora of the Pacific northwest (for BIOL 124)
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening and horticulture practices and principles (for BIOL 126)
- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of plant biology and/or sustainable gardening
- Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technology
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
- Contributing to equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competence
- Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Conditions of Employment
Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online) operations, with the option for some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Terms of Employment & Salary:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
