Job Description:

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Instruction of students in the clinical phase of an Associate degree Nursing Program, including team teaching assignments and clinical supervision. Instruction may take place in a clinical agency and/or in an on-campus laboratory. Contribute to the development, review, assessment, and maintenance of a high quality nursing curriculum. Assist in retention and graduation of students and with other departmental efforts.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Attend faculty orientation at assigned facility (or take responsibility for working with facility to be oriented in another way). Complete any mandatory training that is required by the clinical facility.

Provide orientation to the assigned facility for student group(s).

Plan student clinical experiences in conjunction with the course teaching team and/or clinical agency staff.

Communicate plan and student learning objectives to appropriate agency staff.

Select and post student clinical assignments on the clinical unit.

Provide clinical supervision and guidance for nursing students.

Grade written student assignments per course procedures.

Evaluate student progress toward the achievement of learning objectives.

Conduct pre- and post-conference in the clinical area.

Submit written documentation such as attendance, clinical evaluations, etc. as per departmental policy.

Attend and contribute to course planning/coordinating meetings.

Attend Nursing Faculty and program/Curriculum meetings.

Attend and contribute to end of semester agency conference.

Maintain and submit documentation for health requirements (physical, immunizations, TB screen/testing), CPR certification, licensure as required by department policy.

OTHER

Faculty evaluation may include assessment in such areas as:

  • Teaching effectiveness
  • Demonstrating clinical excellence
  • Demonstrating knowledge of course content
  • Integrating theory with clinical application
  • Demonstrating genuine concern and interest in students
  • Adopting teaching approaches to meet varying student learning styles
  • Demonstrating student performance achievement of course objectives

Professional growth as exhibited by

  • Attending conferences, workshops, meetings, seminars
  • Speaking or presenting at conferences, meetings, seminars on- or off-campus
  • Completing advanced college or university coursework
  • Receiving honors, awards, licenses, or certificates
  • Working in the field of expertise


Requirements:

Educational Background

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education preferred (BSN with enrollment in a Master's program in Nursing will be considered).

Experience

Two years of nursing practice in the appropriate practice setting is required. Must have NYS RN licensure.

Special Skills or Requirements

Strong clinical skills in the appropriate practice area.

Ability to work effectively with community college students, clinical agency staff, college staff, and faculty colleagues.

Demonstrates respect for individuality and diverse cultural, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time position. Nursing courses offered include Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Maternal-Newborn and Pediatric Nursing. Applications are continuously accepted and reviewed throughout the academic year.
