Job Description

The Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology Department at Vermont Technical College invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2022.

Vermont Technical College is a small rural college that provides career-focused technical and professional education in a caring community which prepares students for immediate workplace success and continued learning. It is not a research institution.

The Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Technology department has three programs: Mechanical Engineering Technology Associate, Manufacturing Engineering Technology Bachelor’s, and Renewable Energy Bachelor’s. It also contributes significantly to a fourth program, Electromechanical Engineering Technology Bachelor’s. Responsibilities:

  • Teach at the undergraduate level in the areas of mechanical and manufacturing engineering technology, which may include:
    • Engineering sciences, such as:
      • Fluid mechanics
      • Statics & strengths of materials
      • Thermodynamics & heat transfer
      • Kinematics & dynamics
    • Additive manufacturing, including generative design & topological optimization
    • Advanced manufacturing and automation (industrial robotics)
    • Computer-aided design
    • Composite materials
    • Product design and production
    • Mechanical & manufacturing capstone courses
    • Other subjects in the fields of mechanical & manufacturing engineering
    • Most courses will include the production, by students, of physical objects, so hands-on skills are very important – these are not paper projects.
  • Perform industry and community outreach
    • Developing partnerships with regional industry and working closely with the program advisory board are critical responsibilities.
  • Department and Laboratory contributions
    • Manage department labs:
      • Requisition necessary equipment, supplies, and classroom materials.
      • Assist in the maintenance of physical facilities and resources to ensure safe and effective instruction.
      • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
      • Assist with setup and breakdown of class and lab equipment.
      • Clean and organize tools and machines as needed.
    • Oversee lab technician as they assist students with lab activities and projects.
    • Perform assessment activities intended to maintain accreditation.
    • Develop curriculum as needed.
  • College responsibilities
    • Serve the college community by participating in committees, student advising, recruitment, student competitions, and etc.
  • Professional development
    • Stay current in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering fields by attending conferences and continuing education courses.
    • Work to develop and maintain teaching effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have a degree and professional experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering. A Master's degree, or B.S. degree and PE license, is required. Prior teaching experience is highly desirable.

Salary:

Based on qualifications and experience as defined by VSC-VSCFF Bargaining Unit Agreement.

Education

Required

Masters or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
