Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES:

  • Organize and direct execution of tasks performed by employees in accounting, payroll budgeting, accounts payable, receivables, collections, and inventory control. Required to perform duties in areas of responsibility in employees’ absences and during peak activity periods.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the financial records and reports, including: Analyzing financial data, preparing and keying journal vouchers, monitoring and keying budget revisions, maintaining charts of accounts, maintaining accounts receivable transaction file, reconciling bank accounts and reconciling control and subsidiary accounts.
  • Reports include but are not limited to monthly, quarterly, and annual federal reports; applications for federal, state, and private grants and contracts; and manual and electronic requests for funds.
  • Responsible for preparation of annual financial statement, annual expense report, annual budget and required budget amendments.
  • Responsible for SACSCOC compliance and specialty accreditation compliance of all programs / services in assigned division / department.
  • Provide input for financial and accounting requirements of the automated financial systems. Assist Dean with coordination of audit by State Examiners of Public Accounts and federal and state granting and contracting agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of and implement accounting and internal control practices applicable to higher education with an emphasis on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board pronouncements, NACUBO requirements and state and federal regulations.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, the ACCS Office, and the College.
  • Serve on committees with the ACCS Office and ACCS Financial Management Association, as needed.
  • Maintain frequent contact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and third parties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting or a related field from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in higher education accounting and reporting required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Banner experience preferred.

SALARY:
Salary Schedule C-1 – $85,093 - $122,061 based on applicable experience.
