General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Dean of Agriculture, the Instructor, Livestock Management & Production is responsible for developing and implementing courses in the Livestock Management & Production program. Courses may take place in classroom, laboratory, online, and hybrid (online & face-to-face) formats. This is a full-time position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The instructor is responsible for writing course objectives, implementing appropriate teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress and keeping accurate and timely student records. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, various aspects of Livestock Management & Production.
  • Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas.
  • Practice and encourage safety.
  • Provide instruction to a diverse student population according to the objectives of each course in the Livestock Management & Production program.
  • This instructor will utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory that include, but are not limited to, lecture, small groups, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and laboratory activities.
  • Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress in a timely manner.
  • Remain current in events and developments related to the subject area. Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self study.
  • Participate in division and college meetings and committees.
  • Participate in program Workforce Leadership Team (WLT) meetings.
  • Maintain security of College vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials.
  • Serve as an Academic Advisor for students. Tasks included in this area are: advise students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff.
  • Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on approved college curriculum form. In addition, the instructor will develop, revise and maintain classroom/laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies. This instructor will review, evaluate and recommend textbooks for course use.
  • Function as a Member of the Livestock Management & Production program, Agriculture Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams.
  • Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner which will project a positive image of the program and the College and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans.
  • Maintain and upgrade the Livestock Management & Production classroom/laboratory instructional facilities and equipment. Responsible to verify maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure that it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use.
  • Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors): Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction or his/her designee.
  • Program Chair/Program Lead: The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if offered the opportunity to be Program Director/Department Chair. The primary role of the Program Director/Department Chair is to ensure that through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Director reports to the Dean or Associate Dean of the Division.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or Agriculture Education, Animal Science, or Veterinary Medicine, or a directly related field of study.*
  • Two (2) years of recent verifiable employment experience in Agriculture or Agriculture Education.*

  • Associate’s degree in an Agriculture related field plus a total of four (4) years of professional work experience in the Agriculture industry may be substituted for degree/experience requirement.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Agriculture or Agriculture Education, Animal Science, or Veterinary Medicine.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Additional post-secondary training or degree.
  • Industry recognized certification(s) related to Livestock Management, Health, Reproduction, and/or Handling.

Salary
$52,000/yr
