Full Job Description

The full-time instructor for Human Services Technology will be a member of a diverse team that will teach a variety of courses including online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses to undergraduate students. The instructors will prepare course syllabi and teaching materials and grade students’ performance. Instructors will teach courses based on assigned course descriptions and learning objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher and 18 graduate hours in a human services field (social work, counseling, rehabilitation studies, therapeutic recreation, substance abuse counseling, gerontology) Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Knowledge and experience with online learning management systems.
  • Direct experience in the content areas taught in a Human Services Technology AAS curriculum.
  • Availability for training and supervision.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years or more years of college teaching experience.
  • Experience and/or online teaching certification.
  • Experience training and/or supervising entry level human services professionals.
  • Credentials issued from the North Carolina Addictions Professional Practice Board of: Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CSS)

Essential Duties

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the program coordinator and approved by the department chair and dean.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS-approved competencies.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance, grade reports, roll books, etc.
  • Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable.
  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
  • Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.
  • Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.
  • Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise.
  • Provide assistance to advisees.
  • Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
  • Use the computer and the college’s student information system to assist advisees.
  • Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the program coordinator and then the department chair and participate in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
  • Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations.
  • Read professional literature.
  • Keep abreast of current technology.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and professional meetings.
  • Participate in on-campus professional development activities.
  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.
  • Serve on committees as required.
  • Participate in college-wide activities.
  • Attend specialized training activities that enhance job performance and foster diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Foster diversity, equity and inclusion with colleagues and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated practice of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and among your team, as well as experience working in a diverse environment.
