Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) District is widely recognized as the hub of culture and education for the surrounding community and is working toward its vision of becoming “California’s premier destination community college.” LTCC is recruiting for a Digital Print and Mailroom Technician I to work closely with administrative services, college faculty, and staff to provide operational functions in printing, mail room maintenance, being the switchboard operator.

Administrative Services provides the campus with essential services to ensure the ongoing operations of the college and serves as the liaison to classified staff. Each of the departments within the Administrative Services provides critical support to ensure continued safe and sound operations of the college.

The college currently serves just over 8,000 students annually, helping them to earn terminal degrees, preparing them for transfer to four-year institutions, instructing them in basic skills, and readying them for successful careers through the college's career and technical education offerings.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited to participate in a skills assessment stage of the screening process. These applicants will be notified by phone or email on or about Thursday, October 13, 2022. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of 3 to 5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 21, 2022. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $39,312 to $43,417 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $50,368 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 25.37% of an eligible employee's salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This positions is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, generally within the hours of 8 am to 5 pm with some night and weekend requirements, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt).

LTCC provides 16 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days of paid sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holidays and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Administrative Services, provides operations functions in printing high quality materials for advertisements and instruction; proofreading and duplicating requested materials; serve as switchboard operator; maintain mailroom including the coordination of incoming and outgoing mail and packages; provide support to graphic arts functions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
A Technician is trained or skilled in the technical aspect of a subject. This is the entry-level class in the Technician series. Work is performed under direct supervision of a director within a department. Position exercises less discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress or is performed within specific guidelines and fits a pattern that has been established and explained before the work is started. Changes in work procedures are explained in advance as they arise. Impact on students, financial, physical, or personnel resources is generally department wide.?

Support graphic art functions by assisting in the production of print materials such as posters, institutional reports and handouts; develop guidelines, monitor deadlines and assist faculty in the reproduction of duplicable materials; monitor copyright laws to assure compliance and advise faculty and staff of violations; establish systems to monitor quality of materials produced; perform general clerical duties for faculty and department; type materials; compose flyers; proofread produced materials; perform data entry; prepare purchase requisitions; monitor expenditures for department; prepare accounting records.   

Serve as primary switchboard operator answering a high volume of incoming calls to the main switchboard and answering various questions related to college business or activities and maintaining phone system and equipment.

Process and distribute incoming college mail and packages; maintain knowledge of postal regulations; post outgoing mail including priority, bulk mail, express shipping, etc.; maintain mail and fax equipment; maintain records of postal transactions; maintain and prepare a variety of records, reports and files related to assigned activities.

Coordinate and operate a production-oriented service area with high-speed copier, postage machine, sign engraver, padding press, folding machine and binding machine; perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting for all the machines and copiers located within the print services department; call for equipment repair as needed; order and maintain supplies and maintain usage and inspection records; serve as lead worker and assign production tasks to other staff in the department; train and oversee student workers; and assist in annual departmental budget preparation; serve on committees; attend meetings related to assigned work. 

Other Duties:

Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 

Any combination equivalent to: an associate degree or three years of general clerical experience involving high volume print environment.

Knowledge of:

  • Operation and maintenance of high-speed copiers and other production equipment.
  • Proofreading techniques and quality control methods.
  • Receptionist and telephone etiquette and techniques.
  • Switchboard operation.
  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • General clerical and record-keeping techniques.
  • Basic letter and report writing practices.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Ability to:

  • Operate a variety of equipment used in a print shop environment.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software.
  • Learn and apply laws and regulations governing copyright.
  • Learn and provide information regarding the college to the public.
  • Learn and apply postal regulations.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn and apply the rules and regulations of the district and assigned office.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Work independently under general guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and record keeping documents.
  • Safely lift and carry cartons of mail and boxes of paper.
