Job Summary

The Communication Instructor provides a broad range of instruction in the Communication Department including public speaking, and other communication courses in the catalog, as well as develop & maintain transfer curriculum. Teaching faculty are responsible to their appropriate administrator.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Communication
  • Two (2) years of experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience with instructional technology
  • Experience teaching a broad range of courses in Communication Studies including fundamental Public Speaking, Advanced/Persuasive Speaking, Intercultural, Small Groups, Organization, Mass Media and/or Interpersonal
  • Able to demonstrate cultural competence in teaching, teamwork, and/or leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Communication or other closely related field
  • Experience in industry: Public Relations or Corporate Communications
  • Experience leading student internships and/or student organizations like Debate and Forensics
  • Experience teaching online and/or remotely
  • Familiarity with, and willingness to develop, online and other distance methodologies
  • Knowledge of the needs and abilities of community college students, including returning adults, students with varied backgrounds, and dual-credit/early-college students
  • Demonstrated skill in using innovative teaching methods, instructional design and assessment strategies
  • Demonstrated social skills to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsibly with community college students, faculty, and staff
  • Commitment to continuous professional improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team dedicated to excellence

Work Hours

Variable; minimum 14-16 credit hours per week in Fall and Winter; minimum 5 office hours per week in Fall and Winter; plus additional work responsibilities
