Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelors degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.

We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Political Science Faculty beginning in January 2023. The department seeks a candidate deeply engaged in the issues of the field, has a passion and ability to share that engagement with first year students, and whose work will inspire students to dig deeper into the fascinating worlds of politics and governance in a democracy. The successful candidate will have teaching experience at the college level, strong disciplinary knowledge, and a desire to pursue research or pedagogical pursuits beyond the classroom. Required Qualifications: This position requires a masters degree in Political Science from a regionally accredited college or university.

Desired Qualifications: Doctorate is preferred. College level teaching experience is desirable. Working knowledge of computers and computer software, especially multimedia, is also desired.

Rank: Appointment level to any faculty position is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Salary: Nine-month position. Competitive salary depending on experience. The College also provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Tenure and Promotion: Tenure and promotion are awarded based on a review by a college-wide committee of the candidates contributions to service, pedagogy and scholarship.

Key ResponsibilitiesFaculty will prepare for and teach assigned courses (primarily our American Government course which satisfies the State of Floridas Civics Literacy Requirement), hold required office hours which include participation in the academic advising process. Teaching load is a 5 – 5. Faculty will attend program, school, and college meetings as requested or required and maintain an active program of professional development (which could include scholarly or pedagogical pursuits; or both, depending on candidates preference). This position may be required to teach on one or more campuses/locations and require flexibility in teaching modalities (hybrid, traditional, and online) and use of our online learning management system. In addition, faculty will participate in the promotion and tenure process. Participation in the institutional effectiveness process and serving on committees at the program, school, or college level is also required. This position may be required to teach on one or more campuses/locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires a knowledge of areas of discipline to be taught; the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues and supervisors; the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally through oral and written communications; commitment to the community college mission, innovative and effective teaching, sustained and significant professional development, and service to the College; computer literacy and the ability to navigate in a Windows environment is also required.
