Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Fiscal Operations (WCC), the Senior Cashier will perform complex cashier functions including receiving, recording and securing cash for fees or in payment for services; receiving, recording and securing valuables; maintaining detailed account ledgers using automated equipment and files; and conducting regular audits and reconciliations of accounts.  This position involves the exercise of considerable independent responsibility in handling large amounts of cash. The Senior Cashier:

  • Posts payments and answers any questions students may have regarding their student account and financial records;
  • Receives payments in the form of cash, checks, and credit cards for fees or services rendered, records amounts received, issues receipts, and secures cash;
  • Maintains cash drawer by adding deposits, and balancing total amounts of cash, checks and credit cards received against receipts and/or on-going accounts;
  • Posts charges and payments to an automated account keeping file, and verifies the accuracy of information recorded;
  • Conducts regular audits of posted accounts and prepares reconciliations;
  • Maintains tapes of daily cash register transactions and verifies records with collected cash and checks at the end of the day;
  • Prepares cash and checks for deposit with appropriate bank deposit slips and reconciles bank statements with internal accounts records;
  • Issues checks for refunds and for payments of orders received and deliveries;
  • Prepares reports and statements of cash receivable accounts by financial category and by type of service for specially designated accounts;
  • Enters Certificate of Residency information, updating addresses and verifying residence status;
  • Answers inquiries over the phone concerning charges and account balances;
  • Communicates regularly with accounting, operational and administrative staff to determine charges for services and the status of accounts;
  • Refers delinquent accounts to appropriate staff for collection and reports discrepancies in accounts for further action;
  • Maintains detailed records of the contents of various safes, including cash and valuations and ensures the security of the contents;
  • Performs related clerical functions as assigned to ensure the safe, accurate, and effective receipt and disbursement of cash transactions;
  • Performs related duties, as needed, to ensure the effective operation of the area of assignment.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience handling cash and associated financial recordkeeping functions. The successful candidate must also possess great communication skills; good knowledge of modern business practices related to cashiering and the maintenance of cash receipts, records and reports; good knowledge of handling, recording, and depositing money; and the ability to conduct accurate reconciliations of automated accounts.  Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve desired results, also required.  *This is a Civil Service position.  The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.*

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and related systems preferable.


Additional Information:

POSITION EFFECTIVE:   The position will remain open until filled.

WORK SCHEDULE:  The work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Friday:  9:00 am - 5:00 pm and Wednesday, Thursday: 10:30 am - 6:30 pm.  Flexibility to work an alternate day or evening schedule is required.   

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $47,412 plus competitive benefits.
