Full Job Description

The Information Systems Technician provides support to a work or functional unit in software and hardware installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.The Information systems Technician is typically responsible for all personal computers in an institutional unit or functional area, including the installation of new software upgrades as well as related hardware and peripherals. Job responsibilities contribute to the accuracy, reliability, and acceptability of processes, services, or functions of the area. Work is closely supervised, with limited opportunity for independent action or decision-making, and consists of a relatively small number of tasks/duties performed by selecting correct processes from clearly prescribed rules and specific instructions. Decisions are limited to the application of standardized or accepted practices and errors could result in some costs and inconveniences within the affected area.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Examples of DutiesEssential FunctionsAssists staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines.Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software.Works network operations staff, as appropriate, to determine and resolve problems received from clients.Ensures computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers, and administrative systems.Recommends and/or performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity.Advises and consults with staff on the use of hardware and software.Asses functional needs of personal computer to determine specifications for purchases.Performs other job related duties as assigned. Additional ResponsibilitiesMay order computer supplies and other related materials.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education LevelAssociate's degree, or vocational or technical school degree - Information Systems Technology or a related field.Experience2 year+ - Work experience in installing and maintaining software and hardware for personal computers.
