Position Description:

New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Studio Art, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track. Courses include introductory to intermediate level drawing and painting, as well as art history surveys and an introductory level general education course entitled Orientation in Art. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, providing 30-credit hours of classroom instruction per academic year (15 credits per Fall and Spring semesters) in Art studio and history courses. Teaching assignments may include teaching weekdays, weekends, evening, online, hybrid and off-campus. Duties will include developing, revising, and updating curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures. Duties will also include instructing, supporting, advising, and providing timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policies and procedures. Providing professional and public service is also expected. The individual selected must maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities. The individual selected will also perform other related duties assigned to them.

 

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Teach 15 credits each semester in studio arts and art history at the first and second-year levels.

·         Teach weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid, and off-campus as needed. Courses in Art History are typically delivered online.

·         Develop, revise, and update curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures.

·         Instruct, support, advise and provide timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policies and procedures.

·         Provide professional and public service via committee work, task forces, and other working groups and provide service obligations typical of an art professor, such as collaborating in art gallery management and other duties.

·         Maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities.

 

Required Qualifications and Knowledge:

 

·         Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art

·         Record of accomplishment in art production and a developing body of work

·         Demonstrated priority on teaching

·         Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development in pedagogy, including online delivery and technology in the classroom

·         Ability to work with a diverse student population and to recruit art students, including nontraditional students

·         Understanding of community college mission & philosophy

·         Demonstrated interest in fulfilling typical service obligations of a faculty member

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·         Community college teaching experience in studio art

·         Experience with online instruction and Quality Matters
