Job Purpose

The Director of Student Success and Retention provides vision and creative leadership for student success, academic advising, retention, and related programming and services. The Director actively and strategically leads, creates, implements, monitors, and evaluates completion and retention planning components of the KCKCC Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and oversees academic advising, completion coaching, career services, and high school partnerships programs and services.

The individual appreciates shared governance and working in a diverse environment. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM). The Director is a member of the SAEM leadership team to ensure that the KCKCC strategy for student success and retention aligns with the College's mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.

Position Description

  • Lead and develop the Student Success Center's daily operations, including activities related to guided pathways, academic advising, placement testing, completion coaching, career services, student retention, and high school partnership programs and services.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate all programs, including selecting, hiring, training, and supervising Student Success Center staff.
  • Maintain high customer service standards and develop a system of staff accountability related to student success, career services, degree attainment, and dual credit/concurrent enrollment high-impact practices.
  • Assume a leadership role in developing the annual KCKCC student retention plan in alignment with the strategic enrollment management plan consistent with college priorities and goals.
  • Work collaboratively within SAEM and with leadership across the campus to analyze, communicate, and provide recommendations for effective student success, retention, career services, and high school partnerships reports and data, and identify trends.
  • Develop, execute, and access office policies, procedures, and data processing and technology systems of the Student Success Center that support the College, division, and departmental strategies and goals.
  • Work with Marketing and Institutional Image colleagues to create publications and information for distribution to a broad range of student demographics to promote student success and completion.
  • Keep abreast of national trends by attending workshops, and conferences, maintaining appropriate memberships, and other professional development opportunities.
  • As assigned, liaison with national, regional, state, and local organizations promoting best advising and retention practices to the College community.
  • Actively partner with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, divisional deans, and other critical academic constituents to support student learning and enrollment goals.
  • In collaboration with college leadership, lead the development and oversee articulation processes with four-year colleges and universities.
  • Collaborating with the Vice President for SAEM, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and High School Partnerships personnel, develop and implement strategies related to enrollment growth and matriculation into KCKCC for dual credit/concurrent students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management consistent with the College and SAEM strategic priorities and goals.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
 
 
Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, student development, social work, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of student advising experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
 
 
 
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Experience working within a community or two-year college setting.
  • Experience within a higher education institution working with a student population with a highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile population.
  • A demonstrated record of implementing, developing, or working within a guided pathways advising framework.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

Work Schedule

Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
