Job Description

Salary: Dependent on education level and industry or teaching experience; set by faculty salary schedule

Status: Full-time, 11-month contract, Benefited, Exempt

Reports to: Nursing Program Coordinator/Associate Professor

Summary :

Responsible for the planning, implementing, and evaluating of student learning experiences in the classroom, laboratory, and in the clinical areas with nursing students.  This position may entail travel to Williston State Colleges distant practical nursing program sites in Tioga and Watford City to assist with the practical nursing program.

 

Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Explains or demonstrates basic nursing skills to students in primary instructor groups.
  • Observes students demonstrating required nursing skills.
  • Evaluates return demonstrations.
  • Provides immediate, constructive feedback to students who have performed basic skills.
  • Grades summative exams and other required student learning laboratory written assignments.
  • Gives grades to students
  • Keep records of students grades.
  • Demonstrates cooperation in working with teaching team.
  • Writes behavioral objectives for assigned units.
  • Prepares bibliographies for assigned units.
  • Prepares lesson plan in outline form.
  • Presents lecture.
  • Uses audiovisual materials, as appropriate.
  • Clarifies terms in writing through handouts, on board, or power point.
  • Demonstrates correct up-to-date information on subject.
  • Prepares test questions based on objectives.
  • Grades test questions.
  • Annually revises examinations based on student performance to maintain quality.
  • Maintains records of student grades.
  • Provides feedback to students on progress in course.
  • Participates in the selection of textbooks.
  • Integrates conceptual framework into theory presentations.                           
  • Directs the learning activities of students in the clinical facilities.
  • Is oriented to each units procedures, policies, and rules.
  • Follows unit procedures and policies.
  • Orients students to the policies and procedures of each unit.
  • Makes assignments based on the learning needs of students.
  • Observes students providing safe patient care in administering medications, administering treatments, and patient documentation.
  • Is informed about assigned patient needs and conditions.
  • Identifies personnel with whom students relate by relaying information to personnel and discussing objectives of learning experiences.
  • Integrates the conceptual framework into clinical expectations.
  • Recommends action in relation to each students clinical progress.
  • Defines evaluation criteria.
  • Maintains anecdotal notes on each student supervised.
  • Write evaluations of each student.
  • Shares written and verbal evaluations with students a minimum of once a month.
  • Keep records of students performance.

Curriculum Development

  • Contributes to curriculum development both on site and via distance delivery.
  • Participates in curriculum revisions.
  • Assists with the production of audiovisuals.
  • Contributes suggestions in the processes of planning, implementing, evaluating and updating the program.
  • Develops new course outlines and forms.

Participation

  • Participates and supports activities of the department, school, and community agencies.
  • Contributing to program evaluation by attending and participating in faculty meetings.  Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and update of admission, progression, retention and graduation requirements.
  • Participates, as appointed, in college, department, and/or agency committees.
  • Evaluates clinical facilities
  • Evaluates student outcomes
  • Establishes evaluation criteria
  • Maintains records of grades in nursing
  • Assures students are performing satisfactorily in all subjects
  • Participate in academic advisement of students.
  • Participates in the selection, monitoring and evaluation of preceptors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates an ability to perform nursing skills as evidenced by:
    • Teaching in the laboratory setting on site and via distance delivery
    • Teaching in the clinical setting
    • Attending workshops, seminars, and in-services relating to nursing practice
    • Working as an RN, providing health care services
  • Able to teach effectively using distance delivery methods (including IVN and online)
  • Demonstrates an ability to teach at the students level in theory classes.
  • Demonstrates an ability to teach at the students level in learning laboratories.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small groups.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use technology (including IVN and online) in teaching                 
  • Demonstrates an ability to use different teaching strategies.
  • General knowledge of the teaching/learning process, vocational education, vocational certification, and own nursing field

 Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing - only if willing to enroll in a graduate program; otherwise, Masters Degree in Nursing is required
  • Two years clinical experience in Nursing

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Nursing
  • Current North Dakota RN license
  • Maintenance of continuing education as required by the ND Board of Nursing
  • Additional experience in Clinical or Nursing Education
