Nursing Instructor –Mental Health Nursing/ADN Program

Job Description

The Nursing Instructor, Mental Health Nursing position is responsible for instruction, guidance, and evaluation of students in the ADN program.  Responsible for medical, surgical, and mental health course content.  Participates in ongoing program development.  Works cooperatively with program faculty. The Nursing Instructor, Mental Health Nursing reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

Salary is restricted to posted range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.
 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaches course in accordance with the master course outline and within the schedule of classes.
  • Keeps and submit appropriate academic records.
  • Recommends changes to the instructional programs and curricula as required and actively participates in curriculum development including online teaching.
  • Maintains instructional effectiveness by ongoing self-evaluation and incorporating current developments in instructional and learning strategies.
  • Assists librarians in keep the college collections and services current.
  • Assists the college in keeping technology, facilities, and equipment current.
  • Plans with the assistance of the Director of Nursing to ensure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment requisite to the successful teaching of assigned classes.
  • Maintains regular office hours, as approved by the Dean of Health Care Sciences, for consultation with students.
  • Serves as faculty advisor to student organizations (voluntary).
  • Serves as faculty advisor to students in the nursing program.
  • Recruits students for programs of study.
  • Participates in academic audits and division program and course assessments.
  • Participates in accreditation activities.
  • Actively participates in faculty development activities.
  • Maintains professional development in the medical field and stays current in their field of study.
  • Works with counselors, advisors, and other college staff in responding to student needs.
  • Works with Director of Nursing/Dean and fellow faculty including adjuncts/pt teaching faculty to maintain academic standards and integrity.
  • Works with faculty and adjuncts/pt teaching faculty to provide education in the clinical setting and to maintain academic standards and integrity.
  • Works closely with the Deans, Director of Nursing, and faculty to determine program and course expansion initiatives for both online and regional education.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets for submission to the Dean of Health Care Sciences.
  • Assists in the preparation of academic schedules for submission to the Dean of Health Care Sciences.
  • Maintains memberships in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Serves on college committees and advisory boards and helps recruit for advisory boards.
  • Discharge those additional duties normally and customarily associated with college faculty.
  • Develops and maintains an operational manual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Works with new faculty in the department.

 

Qualifications

Required
Education
  • Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited college. 
  • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.
Certifications
  • Current, unencumbered RN license from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
     
Work Experience
  • Strong clinical expertise with nursing experience involving direct patient care or teaching experience within two years of employment
  • Teaching experience in mental health
  • Experience in teaching simulated clinicals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Familiarity with mission of comprehensive community college required
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
 
 
Clinical:
  • Must meet all the health and background requirements required by clinical sites.
 
   Preferred:.
  • Concentration on nursing education.
  • Teaching experience in a community college environment is preferred as well as experience in the development of curriculum and course materials.
  • Bilingual Spanish.
  • Doctorate desirable.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
