Posting Details
Under general supervision, the Financial Aid Advisor provides financial aid advising, eligibility verification, and manages the student financial aid record retention program. This position provides customer services through analyzing complicated and individualized financial aid information and providing services to external customers all within compliance with federal laws, state statutes, and system and college policies and procedures.

Job Description
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
  • Advise and guide current and prospective students on their eligibility for all financial aid programs based on their unique financial situation to ensure understanding of financial responsibilities and options related to attending college.
  • Coordinate financial aid application processing to ensure student information is correct, evaluation of materials is complete and accurate and students are provided with timely communication with regards to the status of their application; review and adjust workflows to ensure process efficiency.
  • Award students and monitor for students requiring adjustments to financial aid awards.
  • Perform refund and repayment calculations .
  • Provide financial aid backup to other Financial Aid Advisors in the areas of Student Loan programs, Direct Loan and Federal Pell Grant reporting, reconciliation, and cash management processes, Workstudy and State Grant Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Business, Accounting or related field OR equivalent related work experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply and follow institutional, system and State policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws and regulations in the academic environment.
  • Computer software applications and systems sufficient to manage and query data and create business correspondence, reports and training presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds with varied needs.

 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting or related field.
  • Three or more years of work experience in a college financial aid office.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid or Registration experience within a Minnesota State agency.
  • Knowledge and experience using ISRS and Department of Education websites for financial aid. Department of Education websites include but are not limited to COD, NSLDS, and FAA Access.
  • Multilingual or experience working with underserved populations.
