Summary

The position of Cyber Security Instructor will provide instruction relative to networking, cybersecurity, cyberlaw, digital forensics, operating systems and related courses. This position may also teach software and/or web design courses.  

Classes will be face to face, and distance/hybrid.  Additional duties outside of regular business hours (student clubs, department activities, recruiting, etc.) will be required.

 

Responsibilities

The faculty member(s) conducts college courses for Cyber Security students using a variety of appropriate teaching methods; meets all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; prepares teaching syllabi for courses of study; prepares materials to adequately evaluate student progress; reports midterm and final grades when appropriate; maintains accurate and adequate records; establishes regular office hours for student consultation.

The successful candidate(s) will perform other related duties as assigned, which include, but are not necessarily limited to: advising students on academic curricula; serving on faculty committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental or divisional budgets; participating in the development of departmental curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.

The faculty member keeps up with developments in the field of cyber security and related fields by reading current literature, communicating with colleagues, attending workshops/training, and participating in professional conferences.

Additional departmental or divisional assignments may be established where appropriate.

Essential Duties.

Teach a full range of Cyber Security courses including:
CSCO 2000 Beginning Internetworking
CSCO 2010 Advanced Internetworking I
CSCO 2020 Advanced Internetworking II
CSCO 2035 CCNA Cert Exam Review
CSEC 1500 Network Security Fundamentals
CSEC 1510 Network Defense Principles
CSEC 1520 Network Attack Principles
CSEC 1530 Computer Forensics
CMAP 1615 Operating Systems
INET 2670 Internet Ethics and Cyberlaw
Provide leadership in the development and revision of the Cyber Security curriculum responsive to the students served.
Maintain and build relationships with local businesses to help ensure the program addresses the employment and educational needs of the industry.
Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
Maintain office hours, attend faculty, school, and program advisory meetings, participate in faculty development, and serve on committees as requested
Keep accurate records, maintain class grades using Moodle, participate in assessment efforts and ongoing curriculum development, assist with academic advising, student recruitment
Assist in recruitment and preparation of students for employment in the cyber security industry
Teach in person lecture and lab classes.
Teach using alternate delivery methods, i.e. online synchronous/asynchronously, hybrid combining online and in person.

 

Minimum Qualifications.
Associates degree in Information Technology or related field plus applicable work experience; bachelor's degree is preferred.
Current (or ability to obtain) industry and vendor certifications (CISSP, Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Security+, Linux+).
Ability to be a liaison, contact, and operations lead of grant projects associated or affiliated with the Cyber Security and Information Systems department.
Ability to contribute to campus and district-wide professional responsibilities and activities.
Ability to complement existing staff, student, and community demographics in terms of professional and personal skills.
Knowledge of networking technologies; network, systems and application security; logs and detection administration; cyber threat intelligence processes; penetration testing; operating systems; basic understanding of cyberlaw; Microsoft Office proficient.
Strong communication skills and service orientation.
A commitment to teaching excellence.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Networking, Information Technology or other related field and applicable work experience. Knowledge of the National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE2Y) program and ability to help college obtain credential.Proficiency in instruction, curriculum development, supervision, evaluation, and academic advising.Demonstrated leadership experience and skills via boards, supervisory roles, or relevant experience.Knowledge of digital forensic tools (EnCase, etc.); HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and associated web development tools.

Work Environment:Typical work environment is a classroom, lab, and office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday; however, early morning, late evening and weekend work will be required.  Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. 

Physical Demands:Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasional lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of up to 50 pounds may be required.
