The Executive Director for Communications and Marketing will have the opportunity to set a new direction for both internal and external communication at Mercer County Community College, including strategies for internal communication, enrollment marketing, public relations, and social media presence. The new ED will have the skills and expertise to customize messages and media for target markets, using both traditional and digital strategies to reach stakeholders.
 

In implementing a comprehensive, integrated marketing plan, the Executive Director will report directly to the President and work closely with leadership across the College to develop and employ strategic efforts aimed at elevating the profile and enhancing the public reputation of the College. The communications and marketing effort broadly should seek to attract a diverse student body; grow support for the College among alumni, businesses, community leaders, and other constituents; advance equity and inclusion; and build community, pride, and passion at MCCC.
 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Lead the development and execution of an integrated brand strategy for MCCC that is authentic, compelling, and serves to advance the goals and objectives of the College.
  2.  Supervise the creation and implementation of digital and evolving social media strategies in support of Mercer County Community Colleges mission across all media channels.
  3.  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Mercer website using a blend of content development, project management, and data analysis and reporting skills.
  4.  Systematically capture and assess data to drive informed decisions and conduct regular analysis of the value and effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts and strategies in service of the goals and objectives of the College.
  5.  Develop, nurture, and lead an effective structure for wide-ranging marketing integration and optimization across the college, including the development of college-wide marketing priorities in collaboration with the campus community to leverage, integrate, and promote engagement with institutional marketing priorities, alignment of messaging and tactics, and efficient and effective operations.
  6.  As the College's chief communications officer, work in partnership with colleagues across the College to promote the institution, tell the stories of MCCC to internal and external audiences, and oversee the College's owned media, media relations, and social media.
  7.  Develop and maintain internal communication processes, procedures and platforms ensuring that college stakeholders have effective means to communicate with various college groups and have an internal resource to reference for daily needs and events.
  8. Collaborate with non-academic revenue generating arms of the college to build a comprehensive and consistent marketing plan. Some of these areas may include: Division of Life Long Learning (workforce courses work, corporate training & coursework, camps), Kelsey Theater etc.
  9.  Guide and support the President in her role as the leading voice for the College, serving as a thought partner and co-strategist on messaging and positioning. Similarly guide and support trustees, senior staff, faculty, and other community members in their roles as MCCC representatives.
  10.  Lead reputation management for the College, anticipating and preparing for issues and events with the potential for reputational impact.
  11.  Collaborate with campus leadership, outside consultants and other offices on crisis communications.
  12.  Lead a dynamic team of communications professionals with a variety of responsibilities that promote and protect the MCCC brand, furthering a culture based on collaboration, strategy, efficiency, respect, and compassion for each other.
  13.  Collaborate with the senior director of communications and external relations on cultural event promotions, writing projects for leadership and public relations reporting.
  14.  Develop and share data insights from a variety of sources to track advertising and channel effectiveness.
  15.  Participate in executive meetings (Leadership Team, College Governance Council (CGC), and other committees, etc.) as needed.
  16.  Act as the executive liaison to the various committees of the Board of Trustees and attend College committee meetings regarding marketing and communication issues of importance.
  17.  Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor's degree (advanced degree highly preferred)
  • 5 years developing, executing, and implementing a successful comprehensive communications program across an enterprise and professional experience in digital strategy and web communications.
  • Proven record of leadership success, with a minimum

 

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Masters or PhD
  • Seven (7) or more years of work in marketing, with wide-ranging experience across print and digital channels.
  • Prior management of agency and vendor relationships.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with web analytics and search engine optimization ( SEO ).
  • Ability to tell a compelling and consistent story across a variety of media types.
  • Previous higher education work experience.
