Job Description

For best consideration apply by February 1, 2023.

The Workforce Trades Faculty / Coordinator is a new full-time position with Workforce Solutions. This individual will teach trades classes and work directly with our Trades Program Managers to ensure quality instruction and student completion. This individual will also mentor other Workforce trades instructors.

The successful candidate should be an HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing technician with significant work experience in the field and a passion for helping others learn the craft. While teaching experience is highly beneficial, it is not required; however, our students expect to learn from a seasoned professional in the field.

The typical Workforce Solutions trades student may be a novice, have some limited knowledge, or be a highly experienced technician seeking a credential in their respective profession. The goal for our students is to complete their program of study and obtain the related credential. For some programs, students may have to attend multiple levels of classes. This position will work with instructors to ensure students stay with the program until they finish and obtain their credential.

Workforce classes are offered during the weekday, weekday evenings and weekends depending on the need. Please refer to our website LaurelRidgeWorkforce.com for additional information about Workforce Solutions and our programs.

Primary responsibilities of this position:
  • Teach a minimum of three trades courses per semester, most likely evening classes
  • Ensure program quality across the trades programs by mentoring other trade instructors and assisting with student completion efforts. This includes helping students to successfully move through coursework, obtain industry credentials and licensures, and progress to the next level of training in their field.
  • Assist lab technicians with setting up lab equipment and consumables across trades programs
  • Review strengths and weaknesses of Trades program effectiveness and provide suggestions and feedback to program manager
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and mentoring new and existing instructors
  • Provide feedback for future program development
  • May occasionally work with employers to identify skill gaps in the workforce and make curriculum and instructional suggestions for the programs

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is commensurate with experience and licensure within this range: $65,000.00 to $75,000.00.

The position is faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. For more information, please visit
