Adjunct Instructor Software Development

General Information

Responsible To: Dean, Business, Technology, Human Services

Primary Function

The adjunct instructor’s primary function is to provide instruction and assess student learning in the disciplines of software development and engineering. The adjunct instructor will design and teach courses in the discipline to meet learning outcomes, participate in program promotion, articulation, and student recruitment; perform other duties appropriate for an adjunct faculty member as assigned; is dedicated to the learning college concepts and develops programs and facilitates activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Essential Responsibilities:

A. Provide instruction and assess student learning within their program area.

B. Select and review educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.

C. Prepare current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.

D. Collaborate with colleagues to review and revise curriculum, teaching materials, and teaching methods to promote student success and lifelong learning.

E. Meet classes as scheduled by the college.

F. Evaluate student performance, including maintaining and providing tenth day and midterm attendance in addition to grade records for each class.

G. Assesses student learning outcomes at the class, course, and program levels as defined by the faculty Assessment Committee.

H. Works in a collaborative manner and responds to phone and email requests promptly.

I. Provides students additional or academically related assistance on an individual basis, and/or refers to other appropriate resources.

J. Follows the policies and procedures of the College.

K. Maintains regular contact with the Division Dean and/or program director/coordinator.

L. Adheres to the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the College.

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by the division dean.
  • May attend the commencement program.
  • May participate in in-service development activities.
  • May attend division meetings.
  • May serve on college committees as appropriate.
  • May serve as a resource person in open laboratory or tutor session in the academic setting.
  • May represent and interpret the instructional areas to schools and the community at available opportunities as appropriate.

Educational and Experiential Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

A. Minimum requirements include a masters degree in the discipline: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Technology Management, or Computer Studies. Degree must include at least 18 graduate hours of computer science with an emphasis in software development.

B. Transferrable knowledge of Java and C++ required. Knowledge of Python preferred.

C. Prior experience as a demonstrated, innovative teacher with the use of instructional technologies required; community college teaching experience preferred with effective teaching strategies which meet student’s diverse needs.
