    Supervision Received The levels of supervision received (chain of command) are:

    • Facilities Director
    • Title III Director
    • Institutional Development Director
    • President

    Supervision Exercised:

    • Security Patrol Officer


    General Statement of Duties: Incumbent is under the general direction of the Facilities Director supervision and will work closely with Title III Director and other departmental staff. Incumbent is responsible for overseeing the campus maintenance safety upgrades and further developing the operation of appropriate compliance and regulations governing the department. Administering grant proposals and budgets necessary further develop resources needed for department. Supervising the reporting of any repairs, upgrades, and/or incidents involving buildings, premises, and legitimate occupants of those facilities throughout the day, after hours, nights, and weekends as assigned to accomplish the department needs. The position will work toward updating and implementing institutional Clery Act regulations for reporting and training. Communicates with all departmental leadership on confidential personnel and criminal incidents to assist as requested.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and/or Business Administration Management
    • 2 to 5 years of supervisory experience preferred
    • Valid Montana State Drivers License required 
    • CPR & First Aid Certification preferred

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Knowledge Required:
    •    Working knowledge of standard practices, methods, and processes in the use of materials, tools, and equipment of the security patrol officer.
    •    Working knowledge of Clery Act mandates and regulations for compliance as well as BCC safety protocols and procedures related to the security patrol officer trade.
    •    Knowledge of procedures for filing appropriate paperwork to state and tribal law enforcement agencies.
    •    Knowledge of video surveillance equipment and digital camera usage for documentation. 

    Skills Required:

    •    First aid procedures.
    •    Oral communication skills

    Abilities Required:
    •    Must be able to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

    •    Abilities to clearly see and hear.

  • Summary

    Specific Area of Duties:    
    Performs public relations with BCC personnel and others affected by actions of the department to minimize adverse impacts and maintain positive relationships.
    Assists in developing long-range construction plans for BCC.
    Evaluates the department and recommends policy and/or procedural changes as necessary.
    Determines staffing needs as aligned to functional work areas and assigns responsibilities including the development and upgrading of departmental job descriptions.
    Verifies that occupants of the facilities are authorized users or staff and that they are safe and secure in such use. Insures that doors and windows are locked and secured.

    Monitoring: Oversees the campus security video surveillance in accordance with IT staff as necessary for incident footage and reporting. 
    Reporting: Organizes all safety and facilities compliance reporting requirements. Follows up with local emergency response resources to immediately document reports to local emergency services.  Supervises the documentation and review all incident reports involving security action and provide weekly written reports including security violations by building supervisors to supervisor. Supervises maintaining campus crime log and data for annual security report. Prepare the annual campus security report. 
    Medical Emergencies: Provides first aid assistance to those in need, on an as needed basis.
    Emergencies: Developing emergency response protocols for faculty and staff to be published and disseminated to campus. Responds to emergencies that may arise on campus facilities and determines whether to request additional emergency services. 
    Cooperation:  Develops cooperative relations with local police, juvenile officers, and other emergency services. Requests and aids as necessary. Works with campus safety committee to update and implement safety and emergency response procedures. Including COVID-19 social distancing and screening procedures.
    Alarm Systems: Routinely checks monitoring schedule to ensure HVAC and alarm systems for heat and smoke detection and oversees fire extinguishers and AED units are in place and charged.
    Weapons: No weapons are to be carried or used. Situations are to be defused by discussion and/or calling for assistance. Self-defense measures may be used where there are no alternatives available. 
    •    Training: Attends training sessions at BCC expense, as directed by license (certification) as a result of such training. Completing necessary Clery Act trainings and organizing emergency response training for staff and faculty.
    •    Uniform: Wears clothing, insignia and equipment provided by BCC during duty hours. Maintains those items in clean and good condition at employees own expense.
    •    Lighting: Checks the interior and exterior lighting. Deactivates when necessary.
    •    Maintenance and Procurement extra duties as assign require heavy equipment operating for snow removal and coordinating minor equipment inventory lists for documentation needed in case of burglary or theft crime reporting.

    Complexity: The complexity of this position requires the knowledge of supervising as well as administering funds for facilities improvement and security including some knowledge of common tribal, state, and federal laws, emergency procedures and community emergency response procedures. Working with highly sensitive and confidential matters. 
    Personal Contacts: Employee has contact with personnel in all departments, students, Board of Trustees, Blackfeet Tribal departments and program staff, and other related entities and persons that are necessary to contact to conduct the day-to-day business operations of Security Department.
    Physical Demands: Work is performed in the interior of all BCC buildings and exterior property and grounds of the college campus in all types of weather.
