The purpose of this position is retention focused: to motivate, assist, and champion students who are experiencing housing, food, health, or basic needs insecurity, helping them develop the skills, resilience, and sense of efficacy they will need to be successful, while working to identify and remove barriers. This individual will serve on Laurel Ridges Student Support Team and will work to build connections with community-based services throughout The Colleges 7 county, 1 city service region, including Department of Social Services, Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and various non-profit agencies.

This position is responsible for the administration of Laurel Ridges Single Stop database, as well as the selection, training and supervision of Single Stop interns. Via Single Stop, this position will connect students with various community and campus resources. Direct services to students will include academic coaching, connection with tutoring services, support for students in developmental education and ESL courses, and support for students on academic probation.
Record-keeping, financial tracking, and grant reporting are essential responsibilities for this position. This individual will work closely with financial aid and the college foundation to connect students with financial resources to support their persistence at the College.

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $37,042.00-$48,000.00. Salary will commensurate with education and experience. The position is classified staff and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies. Telework
According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly will require approval from the Department of Educations Cabinet Secretary. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly require approval from the Office of the Governors Chief of Staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or a bachelors degree.
  • Ability to excel in team and individual settings, multi-task, problem solve, manage their time, and maintain positive relationship with students, staff, and faculty while thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate policies and procedures to students and faculty
  • Ability to follow through independently
  • Ability to communicate policies and procedures to students in a clear and friendly manner.
  • Ability to openly confront and appropriately respond to sensitive situations
  • Ability to document services, manage records, generate grant reports

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with underserved populations (Human Services/Social Work background) preferred
  • Community College student services experience preferred
