Job Summary
This position is located in Gillette, WY. GEAR UP Wyoming Program Academic Coach responsible for advising/mentoring students in 7-12 grades in the public schools, serving as a point of contact with program participants (including families), providing programming and resources to help students learn about postsecondary education options, promoting a college-going culture in Campbell County School District, providing academic supports, assisting students in filling out college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship applications and helping students determine a “college fit”, acting as a liaison and representing GEAR UP within the school district, maintaining program enrollment, negotiating access and arrangements for programming within the schools, developing age appropriate career exploration opportunities, workshops, summer academies, programming, and curriculum in accordance with grant objectives to suit the needs of your student population.

Note: There is opportunity to work in the summer if desired.
Reports To GEAR UP Site Coordinator
Education/Qualifications
  • Associate degree required, bachelors degree preferred
  • Background check and child abuse clearances required before entering school
  • Ability to promote a college-going culture
  • Ability to speak Spanish not required, but is desirable
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Microsoft Office Suite and social media
    • Ability to manage workload independently and communicate with supervisor
    • Creative, flexible, resourceful, imaginative, and self-motivated
    • Knowledge of working with low-income youth and families
    • Ability to work with children
    • Ability to develop group programming and curriculum for youth
    • High ethical standards and great communication skills with a wide variety of people
    • Great listening skills
    • Ability to relate to students, parents, and school employees and administration
    • Ability to develop community partnerships and relationships
    • Knowledge of databases and ability to maintain accurate, auditable records of services

Experience
  • Experience working with children or young adults in an education or non-profit setting
  • Experience in tutoring, counseling, mentoring, education, advising, teaching, or prior work experience with Department of Education grant programs (TRiO, Educational Opportunity Programs, or GEAR UP) preferred
