Under the supervision of the BCIS Division Dean, faculty at NorthWest Arkansas Community College have as their chief duty the instruction of assigned classes. This duty takes precedence over all others. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty should assume responsibility for service to the college and professional development. They are also obligated to abide by and support college policies as set forth in the College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, and Administrative Procedures Manual. Faculty must be committed to the goals and objectives of NorthWest Arkansas Community College.

This is a full-time 9-month position, carrying 3 hours of release time as the Business Law faculty coordinator. Teaching assignments and other related duties are performed during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Faculty may be asked to teach in different modalities, including online, face-to-face, remote synchronous, and other hybrid methods. Meeting the essential duties and responsibilities of this position is expected to require at least 40 hours a week on average, including work on and off campus, during the contract period. Faculty are expected to work from campus at least 32-hours per week.

The projected start date for this position is August 2023.
 
The following list of duties applies to an NWACC faculty member.
 
Instruction
This position provides instruction in Business Law (12 credit hours per semester) and provides coordination for the BLAW classes. The candidate will have demonstrated experience in the legal profession and college teaching. The position will:
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes in the area of business law, using each course's standard course outline as a guide. The basic instructional assignment is thirty (24) load hours per academic year for 9-month faculty. Develop course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations.
  • Participate in program level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
  • Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate.
  • Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through the course syllabus each semester.
  • Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
  • Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. A faculty member should inform the supervisor if he or she is unable to meet a class on time.
  • Develop the schedule of BLAW classes and recruit and hire adjuncts as necessary.
 
Professional Development
The faculty will be responsible for maintaining current knowledge in the legal field, with a special emphasis on business law. The position should maintain professional and continuing education, and keep any necessary certifications in current standing.
 
Service to the College
The faculty will be required to provide service to the college such as:
  • Help students achieve their educational goals through formal and/or informal advising.
  • Post and keep on campus hours to facilitate interaction with students, other faculty, staff, administrators, and the public.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, faculty senate, or as a student organization advisor.
  • Attend local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary for the discipline.
  • Mentor and/or assist in orienting new faculty either formally or informally.
  • Attend commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member's discipline or program.
  • Attend departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings.
  • Perform other academically related duties as assigned by the instructor's supervisor.
  • Participate in faculty business meetings and forums.

Rate of Pay: determined by month faculty scale placement (education and experience)

  • Must possess the ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person, and the demonstrated use of good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess an understanding of and appreciation for the community college and its socioeconomic role in access to higher education, as well as the varied student types served by NWACC.

  • Must possess the ability to be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Must possess the ability to teach online, in-person, and hybrid courses.
  • Must be able to use web-based learning management systems (Canvas).
  • Must possess the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and to prioritize.
  • Must possess effective organizational skills and attention to detail; effective follow-through, and commitment to excellence.

Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate or other graduate degree in law, or related degree. Demonstrated knowledge of the legal environment of business. Maintains good standing with the ABA.
College level teaching experience.
