Job Description
The TRIO SSS Academic & Financial Aid Advisor provides professional level academic, admissions, career, financial aid, and transfer advising services for TRIO/Student Support Services participants at Dakota County Technical College. The SSS Advisor works with the SSS Program Director to meet the goals and objectives of the Department of Education funded grant by retaining, graduating, and transferring students.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree.
  • Three years of training and/or experience in providing support services to individuals from traditionally underserved groups and must have a strong commitment to the value of education for all individuals.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the needs of constituents and exceeding their expectations.
  • Exhibits responsiveness, respect, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates intercultural competency by recognizing the value of individual and cultural difference; assists in maintaining a work environment that is respectful and accepting and work effectively with diverse populations.
  • The knowledge of outside resources or the ability to locate resources is necessary to address student needs.
  • The ability to communicate effectively is essential for all planning sessions, for developing and delivering presentations and facilitating discussions, for conducting telephone and virtual discussions via various software (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • The employee must also be able to work with little supervision, understand the cyclical nature of higher education and effect on student interactions, and have good organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.A. in student personnel or related field
  • A background similar to that of our students (former TRIO participant, first-generation college student, member of BIPOC community, etc.)
  • Experience working with TRIO or similar programs.
  • Knowledgeable about college policies and procedures, programs and curriculum, services and resources to assist applicants and students in making sound career and educational decisions.

Founded in 1970 Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) is a public, two-year technical college in Rosemount, Minnesota. DCTC offers about 150 programs that range from an AA, to a degree in pluming. DCTC will allows students the possibility to go right into work force after graduation. Students who graduate from DCTC gave a 90% chance of getting a job after graduation.

DCTC has over 2,000 students, and a very diverse culture. Students of color make up about 20 percent of the population. 35.2 percent of students are low income and eligible for Pell grants.
