Job Summary

The Coordinator of Accessibility Services manages all processes and procedures for providing accommodations to students with disabilities to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules and regulations, including training and support for faculty working with students with disabilities. They supervise, train, and schedule part-time staff and interns and report to the Dean of Student Services.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate and oversee all initiatives for Accessibility Services at the College
  • Supervise all part-time temporary contract employees hired for delivery of services for accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Supervise interns and provide training on the implementation of academic success strategies to use with their assigned students
  • Serve as principal advocate and provide general support, crisis intervention, and academic coaching to students with disabilities, coordinating with or referring to campus and community resources as appropriate
  • Conduct needs assessment with each student who applies for services; evaluate requests for accommodations, review documentation, and maintain appropriate records and data
  • Serve as a liaison with students and faculty for the implementation of accommodations
  • Develop appropriate programming for students with disabilities to increase their academic success
  • Serve on applicable College committees, including, but not limited to the Colleges Accessibility and Behavioral Intervention Committees and Care Team
  • Collaborate with appropriate college personnel to enhance the orientation process for students with disabilities
  • Advise and assist students with disabilities in the advisement/registration process through collaboration and cooperation with appropriate college personnel
  • Work closely with faculty and staff as the ADA representative for students to ensure compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and state accessibility requirements
  • Collaborate with Plant Operations to develop/maintain an accessible campus map, and routinely schedule campus tours to identify accessibility barriers.
  • Recruit students with disabilities by collaborating with high school personnel, providing transition training to high school counselors, visiting area high schools to meet with prospective students to prepare for their transition to the college, and presenting transition workshops to parents and students
  • Attend faculty division meetings at the beginning of each term to provide information on ADA and the role of faculty in providing accommodations for students
  • Provide training and consultation services for faculty, staff, and students to provide information related to issues and services for students with disabilities
  • Oversee the Check and Connect Mentoring program, providing semester training to mentors and weekly meetings with mentors.
  • Provide annual Workshops to all NeSCC student-facing staff on Students with Disabilities, as part of the QEP special populations strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with Dual Enrollment to present semester trainings for Dual Enrollment adjunct faculty and provide semester workshops to dual enrollment counselors and advisors.
  • Represent the institution at state meetings regarding accessibility and serving students with disabilities
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, as well as other state and federal agencies as appropriate
  • Interpret and recommend changes to the Dean of Student Services regarding institutional policies and procedures that impact services for students with disabilities and/or accommodation issues.
  • Assist the Dean in the development and implementation of budgetary, assessment, and strategic planning for the office

Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, rehabilitation services, social work, special education, or other related fields from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with psychological and/or physical disabilities
  • Experience with interpreting/applying ADA rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in psychology, rehabilitation services, social work, special education, or other related field from an accredited institution
  • Higher education experience with students with disabilities
  • Experience with Banner Student Information System
  • Conversational ability or fluency in a second language

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
  • Knowledge of ADA rules and regulations


Additional Notes
Some evening or weekend hours may be required for student programs or events

Travel required to off-campus sites, local and state meetings, and professional development events
