Position Summary

This job exists to provide technical support services necessary for the successful delivery of instruction in all of the Technology labs. The job requires expertise in a large variety of areas such as; electrical, machining, welding/fabrication, construction of teaching aides, rigging and millwright work. These skills help support Industrial Technology labs in the Regional Technology Center (RTC) as it relates to the programs within Technology Division.

This support specialist must have working knowledge in a large variety of areas which may include: electrical, machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), welding/fabrication, building and construction technology, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), rigging, millwright, and advanced manufacturing (fluid power, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), pumps, motor controls). The person in this position guides students in manufacturing/industrial skills training practice. Offers training to faculty and students, as needed, in laboratory equipment usage. This position is responsible for the safe use and appropriate storage and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous materials

Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises one to two student lab aides.

Minimum Requirements

1. Associate degree or Skilled Trade Certificate plus two years of applicable work experience in a directly related field.
2. Experience in welding, fabrication, machining, CNC, electrical and/or rigging.
3. Must be willing to get a fork-lift license if not already licensed within 6 months.
4. OSHA Certification or the willingness to become OSHA certified within 6 months.
5. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

1. Repair, construct, refinish, and paint.
2. Experience in machine building.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

1. Requires the ability to move about inside the office, classrooms, labs, and outdoors. Able to climb a ladder to reach objects on shelves that are four or more feet from the ground or to work on equipment that is out of reach from the ground. This position is very active and physically strenuous.
2. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Must be able to repeatedly handle items weighing up to 25lbs.
3. Manual and fine-motor dexterity essential to provide equipment repairs on miniscule parts or electrical components.
4. Must be able to handle frequent exposure to a wide variety of chemicals which are common in industrial facilities. Must be able to tolerate various outdoor weather conditions

Work Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week/52 weeks per year. Flexible schedule to include some evening hours and or weekends.
