Job Description
This is an entry-level staff position that works under immediate supervision, and looks to the Director of Technology and Innovation for work direction and coordination. This position is responsible for providing technical support to Hennepin Technical College students, staff and faculty. This position serves as the point of contact for reported incidents, service requests and inquiries and ensures accurate and detailed information is gathered. This position interacts with the College end users through telephone, email, chat, web and other mediums of support. The IT Support Specialist also provides administrative and operational support to the IT Services department.

Specific Duties Include:

    • Provides user IT support services for all users so that technology needs are met in an accurate, timely and efficient basis.

 

 
  • Collaborates with other Service Desk members and other IT Services staff on information sharing and incident resolution.
 
  • Identify recurring incidents and escalate as needed for review and potential problem management.
 
  • Provides front-line investigation and diagnoses for user reported issues
 
  • Utilize and develop specialized skills that allow for a high rate of first contact resolution for incidents experienced by users.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
    • Service/Help Desk and/or computer support experience.

 

 
  • Experience using service management and ticketing software applications.
 
  • Evidence of exceptional user service and communication skills including the demonstrated ability to communicate in English effectively by telephone, email, chat and in person with users and colleagues in order to communicate technical concepts and/or processes and procedures.
 
  • Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, be resourceful and prioritize work in order to minimize negative user impact
 
  • 2 year degree from an accredited institution in a related field or 3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications

    • ITIL Foundations certification

 

 
  • Training or certification in Microsoft Windows, Linux and/or Macintosh operating systems
 
  • Training or certification in Microsoft Office Suite
 
  • One year experience in an Information Technology capacity in higher education
