Job Description:

Director of Financial Aid

Professional Non-Unit Position

Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week, weekends, evenings as needed

Campus: Danvers and Lynn

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the leadership and overall management of financial aid programs and the coordination of all available budget, personnel, and technical resources within the financial aid department, across our three campuses: Centro Hub (Virtual), Danvers and Lynn.

The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of financial aid policies and compliance for all federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to financial aid. This individual will make data driven decisions that help the College increase FAFSA completion and oversee the implementation of a robust Financial Literacy Program that supports culturally responsive practices and a comprehensive array of wraparound support services designed to enhance student success.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills, be innovative, decisive and empower the financial aid team to create, build and sustain meaningful and trusting relationships with the students we serve.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership, planning, and direction to the financial aid office staff, and advises others across campus on the strategy and implementation of financial aid. Manages the daily operation and functions of the financial aid office.
  • Provides direction in creating a student-oriented office environment and financial aid support services that promote student success.
  • In compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, develops operating policies and procedures. Analyze and interpret federal, state, and institutional regulations to maximize compliance efforts pertaining to Title IV aid and veterans benefits; monitors the school's financial aid regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees the preparation of financial aid reports for federal, state, and third-party agencies. Maintains accountability for external audits related to financial aid; provides information to external auditors; response to audit inquiries; participates in resolving audit issues in cooperation with the college's comptroller's office.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate applications and reports for the continued funding of federal and MA state financial aid programs; supervises reconciliation of financial aid account balances with the Fiscal Affairs Office, the Federal Department of Education (DOE) and the MA Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA). This includes the timely filing of the annual FISAP and Federal IPEDS report for Financial Aid, the annual MA State Financial Aid HEIRS report as well as other specific grant programmatic reporting required in order to maintain the College's eligibility for continued Federal and MA State financial aid funding.
  • Monitors financial aid expenditures for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs to ensure funds are expended and awarded per guidelines and regulations.
  • Supervises a team of at least 6 full-time employees. Supervisory duties include hiring, training and development, performance management and evaluation, advancement of employees, and disciplinary action.
  • Acts as campus authority on financial aid programs and provides information on financial aid to the college community. Prepares and updates financial aid publications and other financial aid-related consumer information. Advises institutional leadership on financial aid matters.
  • Advises the academic administration on financial aid-related matters pertaining to the development of new programs of study, modules and parts of term.
  • Leads the financial aid team and the College's developers to implement all regulatory requirements in the College's Student Information System (currently Banner) or other related products to ensure adequate awarding, disbursing, tracking, etc. of all aid sources.
  • Prepares and monitors a budget for the financial aid office and manages a College credit card for necessary purchases.
  • Serves on various standing and ad hoc committees as needed or requested by the Dean of Enrollment Services or the Provost.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean of Enrollment Services

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Exercises supervision over Academic Counselors and Coordinators of Financial Aid on both Lynn and Danvers campuses, and our virtual campus, Centro Hub


 


Requirements:

  • Master's Degree with experience in accounting, business, information systems or other related field
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a financial aid office at a post-secondary institution
  • Strong working knowledge of financial aid operations management, performance management, and change management. Demonstrated successful experience leading and managing teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of Title IV Federal Financial Aid rules and regulations and the ability to research, interpret and implement these regulations where and when needed.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, professional, and organizational skills with the ability to identify and prioritize work activities, engage, empower and motivate others while maintaining an accountable team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in assessing staff development needs and implementing training solutions as needed.
  • Experience working with technology tools necessary for financial aid operations and student success
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff and student population.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills, sound judgment and decision making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must have the ability to work evenings when necessary and potentially weekends. Must have the ability to commute between campuses and to off campus events.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with Ellucian/Banner Student Information System
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

SALARY RANGE: Anticipated salary range $85,000.00-$95,000.00 commensurate with education and experience.
