Job Description

The English Department at Bronx Community College invites applications for a Lecturer position in English. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses in composition; we are especially interested in candidates with a strong background in composition and basic writing and with a record of success in teaching developmental reading and writing students. Secondary background/experience in the teaching of professional writing and journalism/publishing is also welcome. The position is primarily in person, though candidates should be versed in teaching in multiple modalities. Candidates must have a masters or a PhD in English, Composition Studies, Basic Writing, or related fields.

The successful candidate should also be enthusiastic about the mission of an equity-oriented community college in the Bronx and prepared to teach and mentor diverse populations of students as well as to participate actively in departmental and College committee work and other service duties. The position of Lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after the sixth annual reappointment. Lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of six- eight classes per year in addition to major expectations of departmental service. There is no expectation of research or publication.

QUALIFICATIONS

MA or PhD in English, Composition Studies, Basic Writing, or related fields, and two years or more experience teaching developmental English.The ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred

Experience teaching of professional writing is preferred but not required.

COMPENSATION

$52,072 - $83,764
