THE DEPARTMENT:
Music facilities consist of a 330-seat and a 100-seat performance hall, plus a 550-seat, outdoor amphitheater (Bosque River Stage), 14 practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, as well as faculty offices/studios and classrooms with up-to-date technology. The department is housed in the Ball Performing Arts Center and the Music and Theatre Arts Building. There are currently 6 full-time and 3 adjunct instructors in the Music Industry Careers Department. In addition to an active on-campus concert schedule which includes 1-2 Steinway Series concerts, Music Industry Careers faculty and ensembles perform throughout the Central Texas area. McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School.

*GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: *
Teach applied commercial voice with emphasis on popular commercial styles and techniques, stage presentation and microphone techniques, commercial music performing ensemble, Introductory Group Piano, Music Business courses such as Survey of Music Business, Concert Promotion, Venue and Talent Management and Merchandising. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: active recruiting of Music Industry majors, performing in faculty ensemble, attend all departmental concerts both on and off campus, academic advising for students, maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, participating in professional development activities, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face and non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

 

*SELECTION CRITERIA: *
Knowledge of1. Commercial vocal pedagogy. 2. Teaching to various learning styles. 3. Appropriate repertoire for voice students. 4. Current practices and trends in Music Business. Ability to: 5. Collaborate in recruitment/retention of Music Industry careers students. 6. Demonstrate skills useful in a voice lesson and/or rehearsal. 7. Perform solo and collaboratively with faculty. 8. Develop working relationships with area music teachers and music professionals. 9. Use appropriate technology. 10. Advise students. 11. Work collaboratively within and across departmental lines. 12. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

 

*WORKING CONDITIONS: *
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Masters degree in Music or Commercial Music from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Professional performance and college/university level teaching experience.
