Job Description

 

All faculty positions are full-time “term” faculty appointments with excellent fringe benefits.  Southern WV Community & Technical College seeks innovative instructors committed to community college students and their success.  The successful applicant will:  Utilize Various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction; Have all other duties of a full-time instructor such as committee assignments and advising students; Have ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff and students as part of an education team; and, Write and update curricula including course outlines and syllabi as required by the institution or industry trends.
  

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Hours:   Full-time equivalency teaching load per academic year as assigned by the Director; 7.5 office hours per week, in addition to other related assignments.   Teaching assignments may involve some evening, weekend and/or off-campus classes.

Expectations:  While a faculty teaching lead of 30 credit hours in an academic year will include primary responsibilities for teaching and assessing learning; institutional service; advising; and professional development, the college seeks to break the frame that traditionally surrounds faculty assignments, especially since academic needs vary.  As such, faculty should expect to integrate with their primary responsibilities creating experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques (i.e., work-based and service learning; portfolio assessment, including developing and evaluating learning portfolios, etc.); mentoring students from target groups, new full-time faculty and adjunct faculty; designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for synchronous and asynchronous learning; training and consulting for workforce initiatives (i.e., for public and corporate partners, etc.); developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs; partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community through recruiting and marketing, advising with expanded responsibilities, and devising retention strategies and activities; strengthening relations and collaborative activities with K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues (i.e., Tech-Prep, School-to-Work, 2+2 Programs).

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Requirements:   Masters Degree with a major in Nursing preferred.  Will accept a Bachelors Degree with a major in Nursing and be enrolled in a graduate degree program with a major in Nursing within one (1) year of employment as a faculty member, or have a Bachelors Degree with a major in Nursing and at least ten (10) years of direct patient care experience in nursing.  Must have a current unencumbered license as registered professional nurse in the state of West Virginia or the ability to obtain license in the state of West Virginia. Prior teaching experience in higher education preferred. Experience must be in the areas of direct patient care in medical/surgical, obstetrics, psychiatric nursing, pediatrics, and/or nursing education.   Must be a team player with the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational ability.  Must have current knowledge in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (preferably Microsoft Office) and willing to use technology.   Must have ability to travel to a variety of clinical agencies/sites.  Must demonstrate a willingness to develop and teach courses online and use alternative delivery modes.  Must be knowledgeable about and embrace associate degree nursing education.  Must be open to change.  Valid drivers license required.
