General Summary

Reporting to the TRiO Director, the TRiO Program Manager is responsible for working with the Director to ensure program compliance, services and activities of the Federal TRIO Student Support Services Program which serves low income, first generation, and disabled students.

The Program Manager/Academic Advisor is responsible for caseload management, tracking and data collection to meet program goals and objectives. The individual will work in collaboration with Student Services and Academic Affairs departments including Enrollment Services, Educational Planning, Financial Aid, Counseling, Advising, Multicultural Affairs, Veterans, Transfer Center, College Bound, Access Services and the Tutoring Center.

This is a full time Exempt position, grant funded until August 31, 2025. Continuation of the position is pending approval of the grant renewal status.

Typically work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, with some evening and weekend hours.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of TRiO Student Support and Retention Services this position will:

  • Collaborate with the Director to manage all program activities and services, including
    TRiO Sponsored Courses, Academic Tutoring, Advising, Financial Literacy, Career
    Counseling and Transfer Advising;
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection of program eligible participants under the program admissions process;
  • Assure that all grant guidelines regarding TRiO Student Support Services eligibility are met;
  • Coordinate the Academic and Transfer components of the program: Academic Advising, Workshops and Events, Campus Visits, TRiO Scholars Course;
  • Instruct the TRiO Scholars Course to teach student core academic skills: metacognition, time-management, annotation, time-management;
  • Advise students in developing Student Success Plans to meet their academic and career goals;
  • Design intervention strategies to increase academic success;
  • Maintain a caseload of 61-85 students, monitor academic progress, and implement ongoing interventions to improve student academic performance;
  • Advise students on academic, personal, career, and transfer planning through individual advising sessions;
  • Facilitate completion of applications to baccalaureate institutions, financial aid, and scholarships, etc.;
  • Coordinate and supervise TRiO student ambassadors, student workers and leadership development activities;
  • Document and record students' need for services, academic support, verification of income, first generation status, and/or disability;
  • Maintain timely and accurate records including contact logs, case notes, and files; administer mid-quarter evaluations and attendance;
  • Coordinate the campus Passport to Careers Program, a Washington program
    that supports foster youth and unaccompanied homeless youth in college;
  • Assist with data management, surveys, and program evaluation;
  • Assist with maintenance of program communication materials such as brochures, business cards, and Power Point presentations;
  • Work with the TRiO team to coordinate student success seminars, annual Portfolio Review Day events, awards ceremonies and assessment activities;
  • Maintain professional relationships with TRIO professionals and alumni; participate in the Highline College Advisor's group and other campus wide committees;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written);
  • Familiarity with ADA law in a higher education setting and knowledge of community resources for students with disabilities;
  • Ability to establish partnerships with staff, faculty and administration;
  • Familiarity with technology, Internet, database systems and software programs;
  • Experience in designing and programming of academic services to increase student academic competencies and student retention;
  • Experience with caseload management, monitoring, recordkeeping, documentation and data management;
  • Competent with technology, internet, data base systems and programs;
  • Experience in preparing students to transfer from a community college to a baccalaureate institution;
  • Commitment to mission of Highline College.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree; AND
  • Three years of experience conducting program orientations, workshops, and advising.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in higher education, student development, counseling, psychology, special
education or related field.
