Summary of Position

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Recreation Management and Policy beginning in August 2023. UNH actively creates an educational environment that fosters diversity, inclusion and quality engagement for all. This position adheres to the academic year calendar.

The successful candidate will join the department to serve the core curriculum and the Program and Event Management option. We are seeking someone with a strong background in community recreation programming, municipal planning, nonprofit or public administration, organizational management and development, and event design. Candidates should demonstrate areas of research and/or teaching expertise that align with at least one of the Department’s current needs, including recreation agency management, inclusion and access to recreation, individual or community-level health outcomes, commercial recreation and tourism, recreational sports, or event planning. In addition, candidates’ areas of expertise should align with the College of Health and Human Services’ priorities focusing on health and wellness across the lifespan. Duties include teaching courses in the undergraduate and graduate core and options; advising undergraduate and graduate students; overseeing graduate student research projects and theses; conducting research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; pursuing funding to support teaching, research, and service efforts; serving on Department, College, and University committees; and engaging in professional and public service.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree before August 2023, with at least one academic degree in recreation/leisure studies or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching recreation/leisure studies courses at that collegiate level in multiple environments, including face-to-face and online
  • Evidence of the ability to engage in scholarly activity, research, and peer-reviewed publication
  • Effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences and professional contexts
  • Demonstrate evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in the undergraduate and graduate core curriculum and in specialization areas (e.g. community recreation, agency management, nonprofit administration, commercial recreation and tourism, festival and event planning)
  • Evidence of collaborative scholarship with colleagues in health- or disability-related fields
  • Professional work experience in the field of recreation and/or leisure management
  • Evidence of the ability to be successful in seeking funding to support research, teaching, and/or service efforts
