Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative and collaborative Director of Applied Baccalaureate Programs and Special Projects, who is committed to community college students and their success at the Baccalaureate level. This is a full-time, administrative position, which includes a full state benefits package.

Reporting to the Dean - Workforce Education, the Director provides administrative leadership for Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree programs and plays a key role in advancing the college's priority to develop and deliver high quality BAS degree programs. The Director is responsible for leading and managing the development of new BAS degree programs, in addition to the ongoing maintenance of current BAS degree programs. Working in collaboration with other college department faculty, administrators and staff members, the BAS Director will provide guidance through every step of the process from concept to implementation. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who demonstrates the strong promise of becoming a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division through assisting the Dean with Special Projects/Assignments including collaborating/leading assigned grants.

The Director is responsible for ensuring consistency among BAS programs with regards to college and program policies and procedures, recruitment and marketing materials, leading program evaluation and assessment activities; and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite Programs (Excel, Word, PPT) and video conferencing software
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA), Higher Education Leadership, Organizational Leadership or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Teaching experience in higher education or in an adult learning environment
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation
  • Excellent management, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience as a coordinator, manager or administrator in an education or non-profit setting
  • Experience managing financial resources in a business or institutional environment
  • Experience working with disadvantaged, at risk, and multi-cultural populations
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff (3+ years)
  • Professional experience working in higher education

 

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership:


  • Upon the approval of the Vice-President of Instruction and Student Services, research potential new BAS degrees needed in the community and guide faculty and administrators through the proposal and approval process
  • Develop and implement new BAS degree programs, in accordance with the processes established by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges
  • Develop plans for fiscal sustainability of new BAS degree programs
  • Develop plans for comprehensive student services and other necessary administrative and program support services
  • Provide management and leadership for BAS degree programs at YVC
  • Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff including coordinators of Bachelor of Applied Science programs
  • Conduct, summarize, and present research documenting community/labor market need for new BAS degree programs, including surveys, focus groups, employment and labor data
  • Create processes and procedures regarding BAS degrees for the college community
  • As needed, advise and provide navigation assistance to BAS students
  • Oversee and manage designated budgets
  • Draft, review, and prepare formal Applied Baccalaureate degree application documents required by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC)
  • Communicate with baccalaureate institutions to create opportunities for acceptance into graduate programs for BAS students
  • Provide expert testimony at state meetings to secure approval of Applied Baccalaureate Degrees
  • Represent Yakima Valley College at SBCTC system meetings
  • Serve as the College representative on the SBCTC Baccalaureate Leadership Council; attend meetings and annual conferences
  • Solicit letters of support from industry to provide feedback on new BAS programs proposals
  • Provide leadership and management of all BAS marketing materials, webpage design, and phone systems to ensure consistency and uniformity.
  • Manage assigned grants within established procedures
  • Participates on the Perkins CLNA leadership team, may assist Dean and WED Director with grant responsibilities
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures
Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with BAS program faculty and staff to ensure adherence with provisions of (a) college policies and procedures, (b) state administrative codes, (c) the standards of NWCCU, (d) the standards of all BAS program accrediting/approval and (e) Baccalaureate Leadership Council recommendations.
  • Collaborate with BAS program staff to develop processes surrounding orientation sessions, application and admissions processes, scholarship awards, registration, graduation and related BAS program functions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the BAS pathways and participate in the Guided Pathways Advising model
  • Develop, analyze, and improve program recruiting efforts and the student selection process.
  • Work with faculty and administration to seek external funding opportunities
  • Provide leadership on the development of articulation agreements and processes for successful student transition to graduate Masters level-programs
  • Engage with business and industry leaders to promote understanding of the BAS degree, and to assess potential demand for new degrees
  • Work to facilitate internship opportunities for BAS Students when appropriate
  • Ensure accuracy of BAS information in all marketing materials including the YVC catalog and website
  • Create budget projections for sustainable programs
  • Work with the Workforce Divisions fiscal manager to monitor program revenues and expenses to ensure program sustainability
  • Manage any special projects or assignments as assigned
  • Requires some evening hours to accommodate BAS evening schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned
