Lab Assistant - Healthcare Simulation

Job Description

Under the direction of the Healthcare Simulation Specialist, the lab assistant will support simulation activities within our Health Science & Public Safety Division.

Responsibilities

  1. Set up and tear down of simulation scenarios to provide the learning environment as outlined by the learning objectives.
  2. Lead simulation activities as directed by the Simulation Specialist for BTC students as well as our collaborative partners.
  3. Clean and disassemble the manikin following simulations.
  4. Organize and maintain supplies and the simulation closets, prep room, and other areas that contain simulation equipment.
  5. Transport Manikins and equipment to learning environments outside of central campus, including but not limited to schools, healthcare centers, and community events.
  6. Troubleshoot issues when manikins are not working properly and report equipment malfunctions to manager to ensure timely repair.
  7. Work with Simulation Specialist to develop, implement and integrate simulation scenarios, education and technology into BTC credit and non-credit health science and public safety programs which will require learning about these program areas to support simulation activities. This might include education modules to understand how to properly simulate clinical experiences in each program and prebriefing on simulation content to prepare for each simulation the night before.
  8. Surgical Technology will utilize you on days simulation is slow. These days you will be handling surgical instruments and maintaining an organized list and summary of consumables and equipment.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Ability to be very flexible with schedule to meet the needs of the learning environment. Work hours vary week by week. Some days the hours will be in the AM whereas some hours will be in the evenings on other days. There are currently 2 Saturdays each month that require simulations that require self-motivated skills to run simulations independently.
  2. Strong computer skills with an emphasis in excel worksheets and outlook calendar.
  3. Strong network skills to run and troubleshoot manikin issues.

  5. Ability to interact with diverse populations.
  6. Ability to lift up to 40lbs on an ongoing basis.
  7. Valid Drivers License, with ability to drive college vehicle outside events.

 

Education & Experience:

  1. Associate Degree in Health Related Field required.
  2. 2 years of current work experience within Health Care, EMT, Nursing, Surgical Technology, or related field.
  3. Work experience in simulation based education required. 
  4. BLS/CPR certification
