Under the supervision of the American Sign Language/Interpreting coordinator and program chair, provides on-site mentoring to Salt Lake Community College interpreting students who are in an internship environment. The position is part-time (no more than 29 hours per week), with varied hours – may include weekends
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Provide professional on-site mentoring for SLCC interpreting students who are in an internship environment.
2. Provide mentoring and American Sign Language instruction and remediation to SLCC interpreting students.
3. Keep records of students’ American Sign Language and interpreting progress.
4. Attend staff meetings as directed by coordinator.
5. Possess own transportation for traveling to mentoring sites.
6. Accept other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
- Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
- Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
- Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
- Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
- Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
- Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
- Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
- Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
- Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
- Maintains professional and collegial behavior
- Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1?2 days)
- Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure
- Completes all required employee trainings
- Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
- Provides ADA accommodations as requested
- Other job related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bilingual and Bi-cultural, possessing native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language (both expressively and receptively) and English (reading and writing)
Preferred Qualifications
1. Associates degree preferred.
2. Previous work as an American Sign Language or interpreter mentor.
3. Previous American Sign Language teaching experience.
4. Experience with mentoring in American Sign Language or the interpreting process.
5. Experience in interpreter education and 2nd-language teaching methodologies.
6. CDI certification.
