Job Description

The Director of Mentoring and Special Programs oversees the QCC Mentoring Program, the Perkins Allocation, parenting student initiatives, as well as other programs at Quinsigamond Community College. The director collaborates with faculty, students, staff, and alumni to implement programs that support the enrollment, persistence, and success of QCC Students through these programs. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing the QCC Mentoring Program and special programs, including management, reporting, and evaluation. The Director actively promotes the use of technology and the collection of data to guide and improve the services provided to QCC Students.

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the Dean of College and Career Pathways

Supervision Exercised:

Supervises Parenting Student Navigator, staff in the QCC Mentoring Program, and others as assigned.

 

 

QCC Mentoring Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation, and evaluation of the QCC Mentoring program to increase the enrollment, success, and completion of students at QCC.
  • Develop a network of alumni and community members, employed within a gender-imbalanced industry, to mentor QCC students.
  • Determine needs of QCC students and align goals of mentoring programs accordingly.
  • Identify, review, and utilize current research on mentoring programs.
  • Conduct outreach to engage the college community in the mentoring process and solicit feedback and recommendations through monthly meetings with college staff members.
  • Collaborate with mentoring programs across the college to develop and implement policy and procedures for recruitment, training, and matching mentors and mentees.
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools to regularly assess and improve the effectiveness of the QCC Mentoring Program.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of the QCC Mentoring Program to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of students; track, monitor, and follow-up regularly on the outcomes of mentoring; document retention, completion, and attrition.
  • Oversee QCC Mentoring Budget within Academic Affairs Department.
  • Recruit and screen QCC mentors to ensure student safety and appropriate mentoring relationships.
  • Provide support and resources for mentors participating in QCC Mentoring Program.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to mentors (including faculty and staff).
  • Communicate frequently with students notifying them of resources and opportunities.
  • Coordinate multiple professional development sessions for QCC mentors.
  • Serve as the point of contact for QCC Mentors and collaborate with staff across the college to provide seamless support services to QCC students.

Special Programs Duties and Responsibilities

  • Track budget expenditures and collaboratively manage the Perkins Cost Center.
  • Identify, review, and utilize current research on CTE programs.
  • Work collaboratively with College and Career Pathways staff on Perkins applications and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with Perkins and CTE staff to improve Advisory Committee practices throughout the college, to build better connections between QCC and local employers.
  • Collaborate with college staff to identify and outreach to nontraditional students, including those not already enrolled in CTE programs.
  • Work closely with and supervise the Parenting Student Navigator in developing resources for CTE and non-CTE parenting students.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Family Friendly Campus Toolkit, as led by the Parenting Student Navigator.
  • Analyze data and provide reports regarding implementation of special programs.
  • Evaluate special programs for continuous improvement.
  • Promote the use of gender- and culturally inclusive career and academic opportunities in recruitment materials and relevant college publications targeted to CLNA identified Perkins programs at QCC.
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools to regularly assess and improve the effectiveness of Perkins programs and Parenting Student Initiative at QCC.

 

 

Quinsigamond Community College Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in college-wide committees as related to mentoring, CTE initiatives, and/or student success.
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practice honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Work actively with other areas of the College to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in higher education, with mentoring programs, and/or with student support initiatives.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and comparable software applications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work some evenings as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, with five years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing education support programs.
  • Experience mentoring nontraditional students.
  • Knowledge of community college academic programs, services, and culture.
  • Experience in program management, with program start-up experience.
  • Must be a team player, as well as able to work independently and respectfully with a diverse population.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual.
