Job Description

The Business Education division at Cuesta College is looking for a Full-Time Tenure Track Accounting Instructor. While the successful candidate's primary responsibility will be teaching sections of Financial and/or Managerial Accounting in both Fall and Spring semesters, the successful candidate will also be expected to serve the college and department in various capacities, outlined further below. Teaching responsibilities:
Teaching begins with good preparation including choosing appropriate textbooks, writing a clear syllabus that outlines classroom expectations and content to be covered, and creating a plan for content delivery. Part of teaching responsibilities also include determining the best way to assess student learning and student learning outcomes, and assigning grades accordingly. It also includes communicating with your students throughout the semester, being available during office hours, and identifying college services available for students, as appropriate. Due to changes in delivery, all teachers are expected to become online teaching certified. Given the needs of the department to offer online courses, all teachers are expected to complete an online teaching certification course in the Fall 2023 semester.

College or Departmental Responsibilities:
College or departmental responsibilities will include the following activities:
  • Developing or updating curriculum
  • Serving on college committees (Participatory Governance)
  • Program review
  • Peer evaluation and hiring committees
  • Scheduling and working with PT Instructors in the department
  • Liaise with community about curriculum changes, job opportunities, or scholarship opportunities for students
  • Collegial or professional and ethical conduct
  • Distance Education Certification (at least by Fall 2023)

Selected applicants will be asked to interview for a full-time tenure track position as an Accounting instructor in the Business Education Division on either Thursday, April 20 or Friday, April 21, 2023. Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the 2023-2024 school year which begins on August 8, 2023. Assignments may be day, evening, or online classes on the San Luis Obispo Campus, North County Campus in Paso Robles, South County Center in Arroyo Grande, other sites within San Luis Obispo County, or Distance Education.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Masters in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration from an accredited institution;

OR

  • Bachelors in business with accounting emphasis or business administration with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis from an accredited institution ;

AND

  • Masters in business, business administration, business education, economics,

taxation, finance or the equivalent from an accredited institution ;

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration from an accredited institution;

AND

  • CPA license;

OR

  • The equivalent. If your transcript doesnt note a concentration or minor listed on the minimum qualifications, please submit an equivalency petition with your application. OR

  • A valid Community College credential in the discipline.

 


Additional Requirement:
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable:
  • Strong educational background and/or experience in accounting preferred;
  • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
  • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
