The Position

 

This position performs a variety of leadership and administrative duties within the Student Affairs Division that advance the college?s student success, retention and engagement goals by serving our diverse communities through engagement, collaboration, partnerships, and innovation. This individual also provides leadership to a student-centered team inclusive of, but not limited to the following areas: Financial Aid, the Educational Opportunity Fund, C4AE and the TRiO Student Support Services Grant program. This position is responsible for compliance with appropriate Federal and State regulations in the processing and delivery of aid, the timely submissions of required reports to governing agencies and the administration of grant programs. Additionally, this position shall serve on College and Community committees and/or Boards focused on serving the College's students. This position will also be expected to adhere to compliance guidelines and training requirements associated with the Campus Security Act (CSA).

What You Will Do

 

1. Provides leadership, direction and oversight for the Financial Aid department and other designated departments, units, staff, services and programs as assigned; develops, expands and promotes strategies and programs designed to positively impact student success, support, retention and completion rates.

2. Leads by example, and focuses on establishing and maintaining teams that are well trained, mentored, developed and empowered to succeed and is willing to be held accountable for individual performance as well as progress with personal development and established goals.

3. Manages and implements Ocean County College's Financial Aid procedures to ensure the accurate, timely and ethical management of Title IV program, state, and EOF funds according to federal and/or state regulations; continually assesses the quality of service delivery and engages in change management when necessary to ensure continuous quality improvement.

4. Makes hiring recommendations, develops and manages staff, nurtures future leaders, communicates and sets clear expectations, and holds staff accountable; provides ongoing training and support regarding changes to departmental procedures for staff responsible for providing financial aid information to students, including financial aid staff as well as other Student Affairs staff, Faculty and Administration; identifies relevant training topics and presents on these topics throughout the year.

5. Prepares and monitors yearly departmental budget which includes technology needs, personnel expenditures, professional development needs and administrative expenses.

6. Process and reconciles all student financial aid accounts for Federal, State and internal audits in coordination with the accounting office; provides oversight in the development and maintenance of the educational loan programs and default management activities.

7. Accurately maintains FISAP reports, disbursement rosters and other financial aid related reports; maintains PPA/ECAR in accordance with federal regulations and ensures that ECAR is updated with correct academic program information. Reviews all reports required for TRiO and EOF Programs prior to submission.

8. Utilizes data to make informed decisions; assesses student learning outcomes as well as student satisfaction with programs and services within the Division based on CAS Standards.

9. Participates in annual CSA compliance training and adheres to the guidelines of the Campus Security Act when carrying out the duties of this position.

10. Related projects and duties as assigned.

 

The Successful Candidate Must Have

 

1. Master's Degree in Education Leadership or other related discipline.

2. Seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience working in higher education, three years of which were in a Director or higher-level position within Student Affairs requiring strategic leadership capabilities.

3. Exceptional customer service skills and thorough knowledge and understanding of the State and Federal laws, rules regulations and activities of agencies governing student loans, grants and other forms of student financial aid.

4. Ability to excel in team and individual settings, multi-task, problem solve, and maintain positive relationships with student, staff, and faculty while thriving in a fast-paced environment.

5. Four years of leadership and/or supervisory experience with accountability for department, unit, function or team results.

6. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, a student database platform, and an electronic financial aid system as required of the position; ability to prepare detailed reports and documents and deliver basic training on required systems.
