Job Summary

The Community Education (CE) Coordinator serves as a liaison between Salt Lake Community College and communities surrounding the West Valley Center (WVC) location, cultivating strong and innovative educational and outreach programming. The CE Specialist will develop effective communication and outreach strategies, building relationships with community groups, educational entities, and other community stakeholders to build out desired programming resources at SLCC’s WVC.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop a build collaborative partnerships and connections with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and organizations (e.g., governmental, and public agencies, K-12, non-profits, community, business, and national organizations).
  • Coordinate with College stakeholders to build up programming and other educational offerings at WVC.
  • Help establish and work with the Community Advisory Council to help guide community programming, recruit residents to lead community workshops, and build community participation. Partner with Admissions, Workforce Development, the Professional Development Office, Salt Lake Technical College and other entities at the institution.
  • ·Drive traffic to the West Valley Center with welcoming and engaging involvement opportunities through workshops, trainings, orientations, and other effective outreach offerings.
  • Market community outreach offerings to surrounding communities; invite individuals and groups to WVC to tour and envision new programming and educational opportunities.
  • Schedule and market community outreach offerings to the surrounding communities.
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns and efforts with Institutional Marketing.
  • Network with other education based organizations and individuals to continually expand the network and list of potential educators, trainers and presenters on a diverse array of community-driven topics.
  • Develop a comprehensive list of potential educators, trainers, and presenters on a diverse array of community-driven topics.
  • Develop, maintain and constantly innovate and evolve an annual calendar of programming and events.
  • Manage events and address potential problems that may arise.
  • Seek input from community advisory council members, college and community stakeholders to cultivate new ideas and initiatives.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the complex needs of the Center, the surrounding communities, and the wide variety of events taking place at WVC.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (120 credit hours completed) plus zero (0) to two (2) years of related full-time experience.
  • Associate’s degree (60 credit hours completed) plus four (4) years of related full-time experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus eight (8) years of related full-time experience.

Note:
  • Substitution for education and experience are considered on a 2:1 ratio.
  • Part-time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.

Must also have:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Teams, and Excel
  • Familiarity with databases and data entry
  • Experience with community-based collaboration or community organizing
  • Volunteer management and budgeting experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience developing and implementing programs and activities for youth, school communities, and/or community-based outreach
  • Proficiency in language(s) other than English
  • One (1) to two (2) years’ experience working for or with a postsecondary institution
  • One (1) to two (2) years’ experience with volunteer or staff management

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral/written/presentations skills
  • Ability to strategically develop and sustain collaborative relationships
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures including developing and tracking budgets, organizing, and managing schedules, and managing inventory
  • Experience with event planning and staffing
  • Adept at motivating and managing volunteers and/or staff
  • Experience scheduling and organizing meetings
  • Demonstrated advanced level of cultural competency and knowledge of inclusive practices
  • Collaborative mind-set in approaching the work
  • Self-motivated and team player
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
