Job Description

We are currently seeking a Locksmith who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

Your mission: We’ll count on you to install and maintain the physical locking systems in all the buildings on multiple campuses across the HCC system.

Your work: In this role, you’ll operate key cutting machinery (including computer operated, automatic, manual and punch); replace all types of locking systems with originally installed components; and convert the hardware to a standard locking system. You’ll install and maintain commonly used locks and door hardware; re-pin removable lock cores for single and master key operation; troubleshoot locking problems (including door and entrance hardware); implement schedules of locks to be re-keyed that are currently in use; and clean, maintain and repair shop tools and equipment.

The Locksmith is responsible for installing and maintaining all physical locking systems in all the buildings in various campuses throughout the system and maintaining a preventive maintenance program.

Replace all types of locking systems with originally installed components, converts the hardware to a standard locking system.

Install and maintain commonly used door hardware.

Operate key cutting machinery including computer operated, automatic, manual and punch ones.

Re-pin removable lock cores for single and master keys operation.

Implement schedule of locks to be re-keyed that are currently in use at buildings throughout the Colleges.

Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Troubleshoot locking problems including all door and entrance hardware.

Clean, maintain and repair shop tools and equipment.

Lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder.

May be required to travel between various HCC locations.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.


EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED is required.

Two (2) years of formal education or training in HVAC, mechanical, control systems or formal craft/trade is preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Eighteen (18) months of building maintenance experience required, including at least six (6) months of work experience in lock repair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to function independently on work assignment

Ability to interpret plans, shop drawings and specifications

Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the institution as well as with outside vendors, contractors, consultants and the general public
