Job Summary

The Custodial Services Coordinator 1, under immediate supervision of the Custodial Manager is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus and in each building. This position knows fundamental concepts of custodial services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all campuses and sites operated by Salt Lake Community College.

This position performs standard tasks using established methods and makes routine judgements on matters. Position requires a broad range of complex technical and professional work activities including excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and use of discretional and independent judgment with substantial personal responsibility and autonomy. Plans own work, and work of others to meet given objectives and processes. Decisions influence the success of projects, team, and department objectives.

This position will ensure that all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training is completed and maintained to provide the consistent, reliable, and timely facilities support to the College by the custodial services and Event setup departments to include event set-up, building inspections with Managers, and special projects based on inspection findings.

This position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

This position is considered a Coordinator level position but will also be expected to perform all duties of custodian positions, as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the job recruiting, hiring, corrective actions, disciplinary, and termination processes.
  • Verify and approve payroll hours.
  • Coordinate and communicate the scheduling of Custodial Special projects with administration, faculty, staff, students and public to create a positive working environment.
  • Assist in assigning work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Sprocket).
  • Manage and lead direct reports by giving clear and concise instructions.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining effective preventative maintenance programs.
  • Accompany Custodial Manager on building inspections to evaluate the cleanliness of the buildings and the performances of employees in an equitable manner.
  • Snow removal: snow and ice removal around entrance ways and steps of buildings; maintain all sidewalks at entrance ways so that snow and/or ice at said locations will not cause closing of the College.
  • Assist with custodial and event setup duties as needed.
  • Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities and custodial required training.
  • Assist with the required training for all employees.
  • Coach and mentor direct report on college policy, general procedures, and duties (skilled manual labor).
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:
  • High School Diploma and 9 years of related full-time experience.
  • Associate Degree (60 credit hours completed) and 5 years of related full-time experience.
  • Bachelor Degree (120 credit hours completed) and at least 1 year of related full-time experience.
  • Any combination of the above using substitutions.
Note:
  • Substitutions for education/experience on a 2:1 basis.
  • Part-time direct work experience may be substituted for full-time work experience, on a pro-rated basis.

  • Must have a valid Utah Driver License.

  • Custodial & Event setup practices and operations.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Team Cleaning methods.
  • Ability to effectively lead/motivate employees.
  • Ability to work independently, or with a team.

  • Knowledge of hiring, disciplinary, and termination process.
  • Management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the safety requirements of OSHA and ISSA.
  • Ability to read and understand SDS label/sheet.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to working effectively under pressure, with multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Computer and data entry skills.
  • Basic MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders.
  • Ability to safely move 75 lbs.
  • Ability to position oneself to perform custodial duties.
  • Ability to safely use a ladder on a regular basis.
  • Basic knowledge of custodial equipment maintenance and tool usage.
  • Ability to operate different types of custodial and moving equipment.
  • Must be willing to respond to campus emergencies during off-hours as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
