Job Summary

The Energy Manager position requires a very technical and sophisticated skill set. They will work with utility companies to ensure the college receives the utility company’s incentives and ensure the college is on the most cost-effective rate schedule. The position is responsible for overseeing and managing all sub-metering of utilities and energy management. Develop the college’s energy management plan by implementing policy standards for new construction/remodels to ensure energy management operations are supportive of the institution’s goals. Examine energy related building systems in order to identify energy conservation measures and study its feasibility by analyzing the business case and return on investment. Manage successful implementation, measure, and verify the energy and cost saving results. Compile reports for sustainability requirements in compliance with the state’s High Performance Building Standard on new buildings. Analyze utility use data and overall energy compliance standards.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify and implement capital and operational energy reduction opportunities, projects, and programs for cost savings and energy reduction.
  • Monitor all facilities design and construction activities as relates to energy management.
  • Review and recommend maintenance/operations, supply equipment purchases, to ensure energy efficient replacement and correct specifications.
  • Assist in the development of energy conscious design, maintenance, and operation policies.
  • Measure and verify energy/cost savings achieved based off baseline usage.
  • Conduct and arrange energy audits and surveys, performance tests, and investigations.
  • Analyze metering data, produce usage reports, identify problems/peaks and address them.
  • Identify available utility rebates and manage all the paperwork to collect them.
  • Design, develop, and manage energy efficiency projects.
  • Assist with commissioning, re-commissioning, and continuous commissioning of equipment.
  • Develop, track, and manage project expenditures and budgets.
  • Implement sub meter initiatives on buildings and major sub systems including purchase, installation, constant commissioning, and maintenance management.
  • Trend campus/building performance using energy star portfolio manager.
  • Support water efficiency standards and best-in-class waste and recycling processes.
  • Collect weather statistics, occupancy and production figures, and other measurable variable factors which affect energy consumption.
  • Prepare financial analysis documents.
  • Maintain positive contractor relationships to ensure positive project development and follow through.
  • Monitor the development and market acceptability of new energy technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management or closely related field.
OR
Associate’s degree in Energy Management with two (2) years direct experience.

AND
Zero (0) to three (3) years of direct, paid, full-time work experience in energy management or a closely related field.

Substitutions allowable for work experience/education on a 2:1 basis.
Valid Utah Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

CEM certification.
Experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Renewable Energy Systems including solar, wind, and geothermal. Energy Meters including electric, natural gas, flow, BTU, fuel oil, and water.
  • Excel spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Lighting design/retrofits.
  • HOBOware Data loggers and software.
  • Building systems commissioning.
  • Energy data analysis.
  • Local and national building/energy codes and standards (COMcheck).
  • Auxiliary utility billing and energy cost allocation.
  • Utility rebate programs and rate schedules.
  • Comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Knowledge of financial terms and principles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
