GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Civic Engagement Coordinator works closely and collaboratively with the Student Engagement Office, faculty including Service Learning in their courses, and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. This position also involves serving as the Co-Advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA) at the College.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Work with the Office of Student Engagement and faculty to promote Civic Engagement/Service-Learning opportunities for students on campus.
  • Support faculty in developing course syllabi and reflection exercises and activities that include Service Learning as a major component or implementing other civic engagement campus activities.
  • Provide oversight for SGA meetings, adherence to constitution, and oversight of program planning and development.
  • Supervise SGA leadership functions and assists in oversight of committee assignments.
  • Assist Student Engagement and SGA with oversight of SGA budget and the Student Senate reserve.
  • Attend SGA sponsored events and activities.
  • Work with the faculty to develop measures of assessment of civic learning outcomes. Assist faculty with systematic documentation of the assessment.
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Research to establish a system to capture and report aggregated numbers of students and faculty participating in civic engagement activities within courses and across co-curricular activities.
  • Work with the College Grants Office to develop and submit applications for Community Service funding opportunities.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings on Civic Engagement with the Dean of Student Retention and Completion and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education.


Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Master's degree.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience integrating service learning and civic engagement into college-level courses.
  • Curriculum development and alignment experience.
  • Strong collaborative skills.

Additional Information:


COMPENSATION
: For full-time faculty, Reassigned Time (with Dean's approval) for 2 3-credit courses or stipend equivalent to 2 3-credit courses at faculty member's DCE salary rate. For non-faculty, $30.03 per hour. Part-time, up to 12 hours per week during Academic Year. Non-benefited MCCC Unit Position.
