We are currently seeking a College Director, Library Services, who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

Your mission: You’ll direct and lead library services in an assigned HCC college, including supervising librarians and support staff, and overseeing and assessing college library services effectiveness.

Your work: A Team Effort
You’ll collaborate with other College directors of library services and with the Executive Director, Library Resources and Services, to provide effective library services and resources consistently across the District. Also within this collaboration, you’ll complete program reviews, annual planning reports, learning assessment reports and administrative-unit analyses. You’ll hire, supervise, schedule and evaluate college library faculty and staff, and work with District and College administrators to advocate for the libraries and ensure that the library departmental needs are included in the HCC strategic planning and budgeting processes. Serving on a District-wide HCC Library Council under the leadership of the Executive Director, Library Resources and Services, will also be a component of this position.

Leading the Way
You’ll participate in the development and maintenance of a strategic plan for HCC Library Services that aligns with the organizational strategic plan, values and mission, and one that complies with HCC Library Guidelines and Procedures. You’ll develop and administer the departmental budget, continually assess the effectiveness of library services, collections and instruction, and report assessment results and usage statistics regularly.

Job Summary

The College Library Services Director is responsible for the leadership and administration of Library Services in an assigned HCC College, including supervision of Librarians and support staff, oversight and assessment of College Library Services’ effectiveness, and other related operational functions. Serves on a district-wide HCC Library Council under the leadership of the Executive Director, Library Resources & Services. Represents the interests and needs of the assigned HCC College Library Services.
 

Essential Functions

Manage the provision of Library Services at an assigned HCC College.

Work cooperatively with other College Director, Library Services and the Executive Director, Library Resources & Services to plan for and to provide effective library services and resources consistently across the District.

Participate in the development and maintenance of a Strategic Plan for HCC Library Services in conjunction with the institutional Strategic Plan that will address such factors as library collections, personnel, technology, facilities, and other factors needed to ensure the advancement and support of effective teaching and learning at HCC.

Continually assess the effectiveness of library services, collections, and instruction and reports assessment results and usage statistics regularly.

Work with District and College administrators to advocate for the libraries and to ensure that the Library departmental needs are included in HCC strategic planning and budgeting processes.

Monitor and ensure compliance with HCC policies and procedures; monitors and ensures compliance with HCC Library Guidelines and Procedures.

Develop and administer the Departmental budget.

Hire, supervise, schedule, and evaluate College Library faculty and staff.

Work with other College Director, Library Services and with the Executive Director, Library Resources & Services to complete Program Reviews, Annual Planning Reports, Annual Learning Assessment Reports, Administrative Unit Analyses and submits to the appropriate assessment coordinators and administrators in a timely manner.

Plan and conduct regular meetings of College Library faculty and staff.

Provide opportunities for College-based faculty and staff professional development.

Monitor the equipment inventory assigned to the Department.

Continually seek to improve library effectiveness by keeping abreast of new technologies, methods, and approaches.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution

• 5 years of work experience in a Public Services unit in an academic library with at least 1 year supervisory experience in a library setting • Experience in all functions of a public services library is preferable

Working Conditions

General office. May frequently be required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach and bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
