Adjunct Faculty-Barton Online (Data Processing)

 

Position Description: 

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for the design of course content including activities to assess student learning. They are further responsible for the facilitation of teaching and learning to college standards of excellence, student engagement, demonstration of professionalism and adherence to institutional policies and procedures. Adjunct faculty members teach within an assigned discipline; assignments for this position are in an asynchronous online classroom. Adjunct faculty is a temporary employee on an as needed, class-by-class basis.

 

Position Responsibilities:

5.00% - Prepare course syllabi following the master syllabus content and adding all other appropriate class policies including, but not limited to, evaluation/grading criteria, attendance policies and requirements and a course outline.

20.00% - Employ appropriate class structure including:

Course navigation being easy to follow and matching the course length

Module introductions containing at least a list of assignments and competencies/outcomes

Emphasize main points (competencies/outcomes) throughout the module

Use effective learning activities in the module

Directs student preparation for assignments in the module

Maintains effective online course management including updated links and documents 20.00% - Utilize appropriate methods of instruction including:

Provides course materials designed to address two to three basic learning styles: visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic

Employs non-lecture learning activities (i.e. discussions, practice opportunities, or other activities)

Learner activities foster student-student interaction with instructor facilitation

Uses examples that are simple, clear, precise and appropriate

Each course module contains lecture materials that merge textbook/publisher/OER materials and instructor developed content into an integrated lesson or lessons that present relevant course materials

Utilizes academic integrity tools based on the majority of points

20.00% - Engage with students appropriately including:

Solicits and respects student input

Sustained and interactive communication regarding current course content and activities between the student and the instructor through assessment feedback and in-course messaging


Provides at least weekly predictable, regular, substantive feedback commentary or summary to current course content and/or activity in either announcements, lessons, or course emails to the entire class

Provides timely responses to students

Exhibits sensitivity to students personal culture, gender differences and disabilities

Responds appropriately in a non-threatening, proactive manner

15.00% - Chooses content that is well organized, explains concepts clearly, relates concepts to students experiences and selects learning experiences appropriate to level of learning. 5.00% - Complies with established college policies and procedures.

5.00% - Attends meetings and events as required by College administration.

5.00% - Responds in a timely manner to requests from College, division and program administrators.

5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

 

Expectations: Adjunct faculty members cooperate with their colleagues across the instructional system as well as other college departments, supervisors, and administration in carrying out the mission of the College. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience - Teaching experience AND/OR work experience in program area preferred.

Education - Academic qualifications vary according to instructional discipline using the Faculty Qualifying Credentials spreadsheet.


A. For academic/transfer courses and programs, an appropriate graduate degree in the subject area is required;
B. For vocational instructional programs, an undergraduate degree and/or appropriate certification(s) representing industry standards for employment in occupational/career is required.

 

Other Skills 

A. Must possess excellent knowledge in appropriate teaching field(s) as well as exceptional communication/people skills.
B. Must be able to demonstrate excellent teaching skills that incorporate and attain measurable student learning outcomes.
C. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively with faculty, administration, staff, students, and community. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Wages/Other: Adjunct faculty credentials are evaluated to ensure compliance with the Higher Learning Commissions Guidelines for Determining Qualified Faculty and detailed in the Faculty Qualifying Credentials document.

All adjuncts must meet these criteria and are paid at the rate of $660 per credit hour rate. Adjuncts teaching fully online classes receive an additional $150 per credit hour pay for the additional work/responsibilities required of quality online learning.

Level II Preventive Health Benefits Plan
This is a preventive plan, as outlined by the Affordable Care Act. Benefits for this plan are limited to preventive procedures.
Premiums must be prepaid directly to the Colleges third party administrator.
Rate is determined by what plan you choose.
Premiums are taxable and cannot be run through the Colleges Flexible Benefit Plan.
The PPO (preferred provider organization) is First Health Network and benefits will not be paid to out of network providers.

Personal Leave
Adjunct Faculty accrue 4 hours of personal leave each July.
Unused personal leave does not carry over from one fiscal year (July through June) to the next.
