Basic Function

Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology Services, analyze, coordinate, oversee and maintain the administrative computer system; serve in a lead capacity to other operational Information Technology Services personnel and assure the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of Information Technology Services.

Representative Duties

Analyze, coordinate, oversee and maintain the College’s administrative computer systems, including hardware and software functions, to facilitate District administrative computer system operations. E 
 
Analyze problems outlined by users and potential users of information technology; study existing systems and procedures and the introduction of potential systems; analyze legal requirements, organization, flow of data, methods, forms, feasibility and compatibility. E 
 
Provide technical support, assistance and information to users; train users and Information Technology Services staff in system operations and security procedures as necessary. E 
 
Monitor performance of the administrative computer system; coordinate system changes including the assignment of new accounts, allocation of disk space and system recovery. E 
 
Coordinate communication and activities with users to review and analyze user problems and needs. E 
 
Compile information and data and prepare various reports related to assigned systems and functions; document system software and hardware as necessary. E 
 
Write or modify programs as necessary to fit user needs; write or modify program source code; prepare sample test data; test, correct and revise programs as necessary. E 
 
Design and implement new data bases; review, modify, and maintain existing data bases to assure validity and minimize errors. E 
 
Monitor the workflow of the operational area to assure timely and efficient computer support for District operations; assure appropriate scheduling to meet required timelines. E 
 
Maintain a variety of records, accounts, logs and files related to assigned systems; prepare, establish, and purge records as necessary. E 
 
Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the information technology field; communicate with vendors and sales representatives; provide recommendations as requested regarding system modifications and enhancements. E 
 
Provide work direction and guidance to Information Technology Services staff. E 
 
Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in computer science and two years of experience as a Systems Analyst.

Foreign Degrees

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.

Distinguishable Characteristics

The Systems Analyst is responsible for the analysis, coordination and maintenance of the administrative computer systems and assigned academic related programs such as registration and transcripts. The Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for the administrative computer systems and the maintenance of its data bases. The Senior Systems Analyst also serves in a lead capacity, providing work direction to other Information Technology Services personnel and overseeing day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director of ITS.
