Summary

As Student Support Specialist, you will report to the Director of Admissions and Recruitment and Assistant Director of Curriculum and Support Services. You will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and Program in the Environment (PitE) faculty, staff, and students to provide the highest level of service and expertise to students regarding financial aid, curriculum planning, and the graduate admissions process. The overarching goal of this position is to provide excellent service and expertise to potential and current SEAS/PitE students and administrative support to the curriculum and financial aid team.

Responsibilities*

Admissions and Recruitment

  • Respond to prospective, admitted, and matriculated student inquiries.
  • Provide one-on-one admissions coaching to diverse populations with in-person appointments, telephone calls, and emails to develop relationships.
  • Send official SEAS communications to applicants throughout the entire recruitment and admissions cycle. 
  • Coordinate individual information meetings with prospective students and admissions coaches.
  • Maintain and update applicant information in the admissions management tools, such as the Admissions File, M-Pathways, and CollegeNET.
  • Utilize admissions management tools and review systems for collecting prospective student and applicant data, processing applications, and transitioning prospects into matriculants.
  • Represent SEAS, both on and off campus, to prospective students, families, and influencers, as well as alumni and other members of the university community.
  • Support the Admissions and Recruitment team with events, such as Fall Visit Day, PhD Visit Day, and Admitted Student Visit Day, and other school-wide events.

Funding Coaching and Data Entry

  • Provides high quality customer service to students and faculty through answering questions, working with the Fellowships and Grants Advisor to resolve problems and make recommendations and provide advising support.
  • Provide logistical and execution support for information events to large and small groups of prospective and current students on financial aid options, financial wellness practices, and scholarship programs (e.g. Wyss Scholars).
  • Process all student funding payment and fellowship benefit authorizations for MS/MLA students, and process award disbursements in MPathways.
  • Administer Graduate Student Instructor and Graduate Student Research Assistant posting and hiring process for both SEAS and PitE classes.

Curriculum Planning Support

  • Update and maintain PitE Course descriptions each semester on the online College of Literature Sciences and Arts Course Guide
  • Maintain SEAS course lists on the website.
  • Provide backup support to the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Support Services for time schedule data entry.
  • Manage Course Approval Request Form (CARF) process for both PitE and SEAS courses working with LSA and Rackham Curriculum Committees.
  • Manage course teaching evaluation ordering, review, and filing.
  • Manage course override, waitlist monitoring, and enrollment tracking for both PitE and SEAS courses (with the exception of independent study and capstone course credits).
  • Provide administrative support for PitE courses including transportation reservation requests, supply orders, and guest speaker logistics.
     

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience working in higher education, K-12 educational organizations, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience presenting to large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse academic community and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in providing clear and organized instructions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and to travel to selective and strategic locations to recruit students.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office that places a high value on quality customer service, team orientation, and planning.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Interest in the environment  and demonstrated understanding of environmental issues.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel, creating and building spreadsheets for data and reporting purposes.
     

Additional Information

Salary will be determined based on experience.

Remote and flexible work agreements may be made to support partial off-site work at a remote location.
